Six Mocs on the Chattanooga softball team were named 2014-15 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Scholar-Athletes. To earn this honor, softball student-athletes must post a 3.5 G.P.A. or higher for the full year.
"Academics have always been our No. 1 priority," head coach
Frank Reed stated. "When we recruit players, we tell them, 'You're a student first and an athlete second.' We pride ourselves on good GPA's."
Three seniors from last year were recognized, including
Taylor Deason (Clarksville, Tenn.),
Jenny Garcia (Miami, Fla.) and
Nicole Osterman (Kissimmee, Fla.). Current seniors
Anyssa Robles (Lawrenceville, Ga.),
Alyssa Taylor (Orange, Calif.) and
Sam Taylor (Ringgold, Ga.) were also honored.
UTC recorded a 3.12 team GPA in 2014-15.
Chattanooga also saw a lot of success on the field, winning the 2015 Southern Conference Tournament and regular season title. The squad made its 10th NCAA appearance in May at Auburn's Regionals.
The Mocs were presented with their SoCon Championships Rings last Friday after the annual Blue & Gold game to wrap up fall play.
About the NFCA Scholar-Athletes program:The National Fastpitch Coaches Association's mission is to grow the organization for fastpitch softball coaches in all competitive levels of play. The NFCA currently has over 4,300 members and gives out a variety of awards throughout the year.
