Mocs Volleyball Adds Three to 2016-17 Roster

The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team announced the signing of Brianna Anderson, Mikaela Gauthreaux and Dani Szczepanski to the 2016-17 roster. The three are expected to add strength to UTC's attacking.

"Our attackers this season have been a driving force of our success," head coach Travis Filar stated. "By adding these three student-athletes, we will continue to grow in that area. They will provide even more firepower to our offense and depth to our team."

Anderson comes to UTC from Round Rock High School in Austin, Texas. An outside hitter, Anderson has served as captain of her high school team and Austin Juniors Volleyball Club in 2015. Her accolades include being an all-district first team selection and a six-rotation outside hitter for her club team. She led her high school squad to two District Championships and the finals of semi-regionals.

"I love that Brianna has experience playing all three front row positions and has the technical ability to develop into a six-rotation pin player for us on the left or right side," Filar explained. "She has a super fast, dynamic arm and has the ability to be a true point scorer in our offense."

A native of Johns Creek, Ga., Gauthreux joins the Mocs from Johns Creek High School. As an outside and right-side hitter, she was named the XL212 Female Student-Athlete of the Month for September. She comes decorated with first team all-state and all-area honors, Area Co-Player of the Year and GHSA Senior All-Star.

"Mikaela has great versatility in that she also can play on either pin, can attack as a first or second tempo option, and has a very natural platform which will allow her to become another six-rotation player for us in the future," Filar shared.

Szczepanski is a soon-to-be graduate of Mount Notre Dame High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. She is a middle blocker for her high school and Elevation Volleyball Club. Szczepanski's resume is extensive, with all-district and all-state honors, 2015 Honorable Mention All-American and Player of the Year by her school's league and district. She also led her team to winning three-straight state championships.

"Dani is an offensive-minded middle blocker who is an incredibly efficient attacker, while also being very disciplined at the net as a blocker," Filar said. "She will be a very valuable part of our transition game moving forward."

Chattanooga travels to Cullowhee, N.C., as the No. 1 seed for the Southern Conference Tournament. The Mocs first match is Saturday at 2:30 p.m. against the winner between No. 8 Western Carolina and No. 9 The Citadel.
