Postgame Quotes vs. UT Martin

Head coach Jim Foster
Thoughts on UT-Martin's zone defense.
"They went zone to try to slow our tempo, and we were patient.  We started to get into some gaps, and by doing that, we were able to get some good high-percentage shots."

On Jasmine Joyner's play.
"Jasmine played very well.  If a player moves well without the ball in a zone, there's going to be a lot of opportunities for her because no one person is responsible for her.  If she is moving behind the zone, that creates ample opportunities for her to get quality shots.  Our players were doing a good job of getting into the seams and penetrating to give her good angles and passes."

On limiting UT-Martin's three-point opportunities.
"I think we have been a very good team defensively against three-point teams over the past two years.  It's something we talk about and something we work on diligently.  We did a very good job of that tonight.  We had two lax plays in my mind, and we quickly corrected that."

Thoughts on the team's improvement.
"I like the fact that we're starting to play a little bit better each game.  Our intensity has been there all year, but when you miss a player who has been a three-year starter and you're playing games every other day, it's not an easy thing to adjust to on the fly.  I thought tonight was our best example of showing we are adjusting and beginning to figure out who we are without Chelsey Shumpert."

What it will be like to coach against long-time friend Geno Auriemma?
"It's hard to play against someone like that.  We're good friends and we've shared a lot of things from when our families were young and growing up.  We've spent a lot of time together over the holidays and such.  I'll be happy to see him."

Jasmine Joyner, forward, junior
On the game.
"We came together as a team once again.  When we played at Tennessee, I felt like that was the start where we figured out who we are, and that game has kind of brought us all together.  A lot of people were ready to shoot out there."

"AC (Anna Claire Noblit) came in and shot like the last game.  She had an excellent performance shooting threes.  Kee (Keiana Gilbert) started looking in the second half to shoot more.  She realized they weren't guarding her.  Red (Alicia Payne) was being aggressive.  Queen was being aggressive.  We were all finding out who we are."

When did you feel you were playing well tonight?
"I want to say after I shot the second three.  I was like if I just stop shooting or I'm not on anymore, I know I can get rebounds off this team.  I know I can help my team in other places, but I can say after I shot my second three I was feeling it."

How big was it to get this win going into Monday's game?
"I think it was very good because this is a very good team.  They come first in their conference almost every year.  We played as a team.  We were looking for people to shoot."

"Red (Payne) would drive it.  She would pass it to Queen Alford.  She hit the three or if I got the rebound, we look for Kee.  She would drive.  We started playing like a team, so the fact that we came together, played like a team against a very big team, it was good, good momentum."

How much shooting do you have to do to get your confidence to this level?
"I can say since last year when we were in the NCAA Tournament, they had me open and I didn't shoot because I wasn't confident in my shot.  This summer I was working hard on it, and then this season I was working hard on it.  I knew they were going to back off of me for the shooting, so that's why I was working mostly on my shooting this year."
