Reed Adds Hosack to Softball Staff

Chattanooga Mocs softball coach Frank Reed announced the addition of Clare Hosack to his staff on Friday. She joins the program after a position as student-coach at her alma mater, Baylor. She is set to work with the outfielders and catchers, in addition to hitters alongside the rest of the staff.

"I wanted someone who could coach the outfield but have a focus on catchers," head coach Frank Reed stated. "She was also a really strong hitter, so Clare brought a lot to the table."

During Hosack's year of coaching under Glen Moore, the Bears posted a 41-17 record and made an appearance in the College World Series.

"Coach Moore, a personal friend of mine, recommended Clare," Reed said. "I have a lot of confidence in him, and we are a lot alike in the way we coach and approach the game. He told me she's a great person and a hard worker."

Hosack was a four-year letter winner for Baylor as a catcher and played in the College World Series twice, during her freshman (2011) and senior seasons (2014), both years the Bears made a run to the semifinals.

As soon as she stepped foot on Baylor's campus, she made an impact. Her freshman season included 48 games with 45 starts. Hosack tied for second on the squad with six home runs. In her sophomore year, she led the team with 20 RBI and six multi-RBI games. Additionally, she totaled four pickoffs and threw out six runners in 22 chances. During Hosack's junior year, she allowed only four passed balls as the Bears primary catcher. She posted a .533 slugging percentage and scored 33 runs her senior season.

Chattanooga is set to play its first scrimmage of the 2015-16 year against Cleveland State Saturday at 11:00 a.m. (E.D.T) in Frost Stadium.
