Gavin McKinney announced the addition of four student-athletes to the 2016 women's soccer roster.
Ellie Myrick transferred last summer from Tennessee Martin, but had to sit out the season. Also transferring is Mallory Burman and Bailey Coppedge. Hannah Torbett is an early high school graduate and enrolled in January.
Myrick spent two seasons at Tennessee Martin. As a sophomore she started 17 of the 20 games in which she played, scoring three goals and one assist. She recorded her first multi-goal game with a pair in the Skyhawks win over Tennessee Tech. In her freshman year she made 15 starts in 21 games with three goals and three assists to be named the Ohio Valley Newcomer of the Year. Against Belmont she notched her first game winner and scored eight of her nine points in conference play.
At Hardin Valley Academy, she helped the Lady Hawks to a 26-9-5 overall record in her last two seasons and was a two-time All-State honoree. She was the District 3-AAA Forward of the Year in both 2011 and 2012. She had 32 goals and 12 assists as a senior to add to her 22 goals and 11 assists her junior year.
Ellie is the daughter of Heath and Danica Myrick and has two siblings, Emma and Ginny. Emma played soccer for the University of the Cumberlands. She was born August 18, 1995 and is a Health and Human Performance major.
"Ellie was a great addition to our group, she is a proven top college player shown by the fact she was Freshman of the year in the OVC, she has the ability to beat players and score. She has been practicing with the squad all fall and is rearing to go!"
Hannah Torbett comes to Chattanooga from Science Hill where she helped lead the Hilltoppers to three conference championships, as well as a district and region title. She was a three-time First Team All-Conference and All-Region First Team performer. In her junior year she was named the District 1-AAA Midfielder of the Year and is a three-time all-tournament honoree. She played club ball for FC Alliance. The team advanced to the state finals in 2012 and were the Disney Champions in 2014. Her FC Alliance team placed third in the state each of the last three years.
Hannah was selected to be a member of the Tennessee ODP program from the age of 13 onwards and in 2015 she was selected from that team onto the Region 3 pool which is made up of the best players from AL, AK, FL, GA, LA, MS, NC, OK, SC, TN, and TX.
At Science Hill she was a member of the tennis team and a school Ambassador. She was named to the school Honor Roll. She is the daughter of Hanes and Stacie Torbett. Her father played baseball for the North Carolina Tar Heels. She has three siblings, Taylor, Allie and Jack.
Hannah was born May 29, 1998 in Kingsport, Tenn., and plans to major in Psychology.
"We are excited that Hannah has early enrolled here at UTC. She has been a top player not only within Tennessee, but also within the South Region; being selected onto the Region Pool is a great achievement. The fact that she is able to be here in the spring to get used to UTC and the way we work will be good for her, she will develop quickly and be a big player for us moving forward."
Mallory Burman, a transfer from Austin Peay, played two seasons for the Lady Govs. As a freshman she started all 18 games and led the team in minutes. Last season she saw action in 15 games and assisted on APSU's second goal in a 2-0 win over Southeast Missouri State.
At Clarksville Academy, she racked up a school-record 77 goals in her career including 25 in her senior year. She was a two-time
Leaf-Chronicle All-Area nominee and named a Tennessee High School Soccer Coaches Association (THSSCA) All-State player. She was named the 2013 District Offensive Player of the Year and was a three-time MVP for her team. She helped lead her team to the 2013 district title. With the 96 Tennessee Soccer Club, she helped the team to the state finals in all four years.
She was a member of FCA, Younglife and Key Club and was named to the A-B Honor Roll throughout her high school career. She is the daughter of Lisa and Michael Burman and has three siblings, Michala, Morgan, currently enrolled at Rhodes College, and Madigan. She was born February 14, 1996 in Nashville, Tenn., and is a biology major.
"I know Mal well from my time working with her for the Nashville WPSL team, so I know what she is capable of. She is a fantastic athlete, she can win the ball and start attacks from that holding center mid position. She has 2 years playing in college and that experience will be invaluable to our group."
Bailey Coppedge is a goal keeper transfer from Ball State.
At St. Benedict in Memphis, Tenn., she was a four-year letterwinner. In her senior year she was an all-state selection, Wendy's High School Heisman finalist and team MVP. She was selected the Tennessee Sports Writer's Association (TSWA) Keeper of the Year and selected for the West Tennessee All-Star Team. Bailey was a three-time Region Goalkeeper of the Year and managed a .921 saves percentage in both her senior and sophomore years. As a junior she had a .901 saves percentage. In her freshman year, she played forward and scored 12 goals.
Bailey played club ball for the Collierville Lobos. And helped the team to the win the ESPN Disney Showcase in 2013. She was a four-year letterwinner in basketball where she was named to the All-Region Second Team and won the Eagle Award in back-to-back seasons as a member of the softball team. She was also a PaSaRyu martial arts student. She was a member of the National Honors Society, Spanish NHS, Science NHS, Mu Alpha Theta and Beta Club. She graduated with a 4.5 GPA, won the AP Scholar Award and served as Senior Retreat Leader and Student Ambassador.
Bailey is the daughter of Chris and Billie Coppedge and has one brother, Jacob. Her father played football at Ole Miss and her mother was a member of the Pom and Cheer team at the University of Memphis. She was born April 18, 1997 in Nashville, Tenn., and plans to major in Creative Writing and Entreprenuership.
"Bailey is a tallented keeper, she is a good athlete and a hard working kid. She has a great pedigree from club and high school and she will add depth to our goal keeping position. She is the kind of kid that wants to work and wants to get better and she will push everyone around her."
The Mocs are in off season workouts and training currently and expect to add several newcomers on signing day next Wednesday.
