Wieser Tabbed SoCon Player of the Week

Senior Kristy Wieser was named the SoCon Offensive Player of the Week.

Senior Kristy Wieser (Lincoln, Neb.) was named the Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts in two conference wins last week, the league office announced Monday.

The selection is the first for Wieser and marks the fourth time a Moc earned the honor dating back to Sept. 21 of 2015. UTC earned a four-set victory over ETSU on Friday before sweeping Mercer on Saturday.

"I thought Kristy's play as a go-to attacker for us this weekend was special and her efficiency at the net helped us be successful in our wins," said coach Travis Filar.

"I'm excited for her that the hard work in and out of the gym has been recognized."

Wieser registered a season-high 19 kills on a .447 hitting percentage in the four-set win over ETSU on Friday. She followed that up on Saturday by collecting 15 kills on a .500 attacking percentage in a three-set victory over Mercer.

The senior's combined weekly numbers totaled 34 kills at a .468 hitting clip in just seven sets. She averaged 4.86 kills/set during that span. The Lincoln, Neb., native currently ranks third in the conference with a .316 hitting percentage.

UNCG's Christina Gregory was tabbed the SoCon Defensive Player of the Week opposite Wieser.

The Mocs are set to host a pair of conference matches this weekend. On Friday, UTC will take on Wofford at 6 p.m. The following day, Chattanooga will face Western Carolina at 1 p.m., as both matches will be held in Maclellan Gym. Full previews and notes will be available later in the week on GoMocs.com leading up to Friday.
