Queen Alford (Decatur, Ga.) was selected the Southern Conference Player of the Week by College Sports Madness.

Alford led the Mocs in scoring last week as UTC retook first place in the SoCon standings. She shot 55.6 percent for the week and averaged 21 points per game with 7.5 rebounds per game. From the 3-point line, she made 75 percent of her attempts, 6-of-8 and was 6-of-9 from the free throw line.

Against Samford, she just missed a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds. She was 6-of-13 (.462) from the field and made a pair of 3-pointers.

In the Mocs' win over Mercer, Alford shot 64.3 percent. She was 5-of-5 in the Mocs 20-0 first-half run to pull away from the Bears, making all four of her 3-point attempts. She was 9-of-14 against Mercer and 4-of-5 from beyond the arc with six rebounds.

In SoCon action, Alford leads UTC in scoring with 15.3 points per game and is second in rebounding with 5.2 per game. She has scored in double figures 11 times since the start of league play.

Combined with her two years at Jacksonville, Alford reached 1,000 points for her career and is now at 1,014 in three years.

The Mocs close out the season Saturday afternoon in the first game of a doubleheader with the men's team. The women's game will tip at 2 p.m. with Senior Day activities to take place between games.
