Postgame Quotes vs. Furman

Head Coach Jim Foster
How important was Anna Claire's spark?
"They were playing a zone and they were pretty packed in. She's a good shooter when she takes her time. I thought she took her time, got a couple of good looks at the basket. I think she did a good job for us."

On being back at home…
"
Your schedule is your schedule. We're obviously more comfortable at home but you have to win those games on the road. I think we lost our way a little bit, but I think Saturday we did a much better job and for the most part that carried over. Maybe not for the start, but after the first five minutes or so I thought we played very well."

When Jasmine Joyner is doing her thing how good is this team?
"Anytime you have somebody that can score in the block it makes everything else a little bit easier. I think in the first half we just made some bad decisions. I think Red was taking too many shots. You can get in the lane, maybe waiting too long on the shot clock, maybe get in the lane a couple of beats earlier and kick the ball to the wing. But until Kiana made that one three we had some reluctant people on the perimeter once they loosened up a little bit.

Overall thoughts on the game:
"It is what it is, and we are who we are. Sometimes it's not going to be pretty. I think what I look at is that we're third in the country in fewest fouls committed.  We committed six fouls. We're third in the country in defending the three point line. When the other team is a good three-point shooting team that shoots 21%.

"I think some people look at the offensive nature of the team. But this team does some things very well.  We are starting to take care of the basketball and that is evident by three turnovers. We're sort of morphing into who we are as we adjust to players that aren't there and players that are getting healthy and getting used to being on the court.

"Our depth is starting to help us in different areas. Whether it's Anna Claire shooting the ball, Nakeia came in and gave us a lot of energy and took care of the basketball, got the ball moving. Moses is Moses. She comes in and brings in a little energy. So we're just evolving as a team with different components."

Jasmine Joyner, forward, junior
On playing well against Furman since her freshmen year at UTC.
"I just try to play hard every game. I remember my freshman year and last year, it was really close games against Furman. I know what talented players they have, especially the post player from last year. She was really good, and we always competed every year. I play hard against them, just like I try to do in every conference game."

Did it seem everything was opening up for you down in the paint in the second half?
"Yes, I kind of came in the mindset that they were going to box me out more and double team me, so I just had to be patient. I just had to know when to kick it out and what moves to do."

On the team's defense turning into offense tonight.
"We came off slow, but after the timeout, I feel like that's where we got our energy. Sydney Vanlandingham came in. Nakeia Burks came in. They gave us a burst of energy that we needed. I felt like that's where everything started."

Keiana Gilbert, guard, sophomore
What was key in the big run in the second quarter?
"I think that we just had to start on defense, and once we got that going, that helped us offensively."
