Postgame Quotes vs. Wofford

Head coach Jim Foster
How much easier does it make everything else when you're hitting shots early on?
"You have to guard people, and if you guard people, people can't get away from you. We didn't make shots early against Furman. We started to guard them, then they couldn't get away from us, and eventually we're going to start figuring some things out. Shots are always the least attractive thing to hang onto when you look at yourself and to find yourself as a team because it comes and goes."

"Defense, ball movement and things like that, if you do that on a regular basis, you can fix yourself through the course of a game. But if you just live and die with shooting and putting the ball in the basket, then what do you turn to the days it's not? We're good at guarding people. We're good at not fouling them generally speaking, and we're good at defending the three point line. That's a pretty good combination."

"What I liked about today, 65 is good for us and Jasmine not having a big game. Jasmine has had big games when we scored like that today. Other people have picked up the slack. They're very physical with Jasmine."

On Sydney Vanlandingham seeing more time.
"If she plays defense, she'll get the opportunity. If she takes care of the ball, she'll get the opportunity. You don't get on the floor because you're a good kid. You get on the floor because you earn it. You get on the floor because you work hard every day. When you start to understand that, good things start to happen generally speaking."

"Our bench is starting to play the way we like them to play. Don't underestimate, Molly Melton coming back is a big deal for us because it allows us to have a point guard running with that second group. We didn't have that for five or six weeks. That makes a difference. Then everybody is out of position, and not the continuity that you would like to be playing against - the challenges you would like to be practicing against. Don't misunderstand or underestimate the value of kids on the bench even of you don't see them."

"If they're good practice players and they work hard, at some point in time you're going to see Ashlyn Wert work. She hasn't made that transformation to games yet, but in practice she has us shaking our heads pretty much on a daily basis now. She does some really good things.  She just has to get over that hurdle of the game. As soon as she does, it's like Sydney, it's like Anna Claire, it's like any of them. They just start to get better."

Did it surprise you with Alicia Payne getting five rebounds?
"No, she had a great floor game. She had as good of a floor game you could have. She had five rebounds. She had seven assists. She blocked two shots. She had three steals, and she had eight deflections. She played a heck of a lot better than she did the other day. The other day I think she took 10 shots. Today she took three shots, but you see how she can impact the team in a lot of different ways."

On blocking 14 of their missed shots.
"You're not going to go out there thinking you're going to block 14 shots and get 14 steals. That's pretty good at that end of the floor."

Sydney Vanlandingham, forward, junior

On being wide open to take the shots.

"Yes, it caught me off guard a little bit, because I was expecting someone to be on me. When I saw that everybody else was covered, I just looked at the rim."

On seeing an increase in her role.

"For me, in the past year and a half, coach (Foster) has really told me to just slow down. He's told me to not try to force things and make plays, just let everything come to me. It sounds easier said than done, but it really has been clicking for me. I'm getting my groove back in being steady and calm when I go in, and to not try and force things."

On being able to take care of the ball and limiting team turnovers.

"I thought we did a good job of limiting turnovers today. I think it was that we are swinging the ball, taking our time to look inside the post and not try to force it too much."

Queen Alford, guard, forward

On the mentality entering the game.

"The mentality is the same for every game. We have to come in and we have to play hard. We kind of underestimated them the first time around, so this time we went out with the mentality of playing hard and getting better."

On how much an adjustment it was transferring to Chattanooga.

"For me when I first came here, it was a huge adjustment. I think the teams are more competitive, and I think that everybody has a different mentality in the way they play here."
