Filar Announces Volleyball Spring Events

The Mocs host four events at Maclellan Gym in April.

The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team is preparing for the upcoming 2016 fall season with spring training. Head coach Travis Filar announced four events UTC is set to host at Maclellan Gym in April.

"The spring can make or break you," Filar stated. "It really made us last spring. I think what we did, the work and everything we put into the weight room and our spring competitions gave us so much confidence going into this past fall. It was a big factor for having the success that we did."

Chattanooga starts spring play by hosting an all-day tournament on April 2. Ole Miss, Tennessee Tech, West Florida and Dalton State are all traveling to the event. UTC is scheduled to play at 9:30 a.m. (E.D.T.), 10:45 a.m., 1:15 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. The matches will be a shortened format of two sets to 25 points each.

The Mocs face Lee in a scrimmage April 6 at 7:00 p.m. Three days later, UTC has its alumni match April 9 at 3:00 p.m.

"At least four of our seniors are still around taking classes," Filar commented. "It'll be great to have them back in the gym, in addition to some of the alumni I coached, and also I hope some that I didn't coach will be back as well. It's important for our current team members to know where the program has come from and who was involved in it."

Wrapping up spring play, the Mocs host a training day with Kennesaw State on April 16.

"We're gaining strength," said Filar. "We're gaining explosiveness that translates onto the court. I love the spring because it gets you geared up towards having a great fall."

All events are free and open to the public.

"We knew we wanted to stay close to home, and the fact that we were able to schedule four home events is great," explained Filar. "It's great for our fans, who I think saw our program take a really big step this fall, to continue to see the progress that we're trying to make."
