SPARTANBURG, S.C.---The Southern Conference announced University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior guard Stephen McDowell as SoCon Player of the Week on Tuesday.  McDowell is one of four winners of the award this season joining Davidson's Stephen Curry, College of Charleston's Andrew Goudelock and Elon's Brett James.

The graduate student from Indianapolis, Ind., averaged 25.7 points per game in leading the Mocs to a 2-1 week including a 99-84 win over then mid-major No. 21 Niagara.  In that game, Stephen notched career highs with 38 points and eight rebounds while tying a school record making nine three-pointers.

For the week, McDowell shot 54.5 percent from the field (24-44) while hitting an amazing 60.6 percent (20-33) from behind the arc making 6.7 three-pointers per game.  The guard also averaged 4.7 rebounds, two assists and two steals per game.

The last SoCon Player of the Week for the Mocs was McDowell a little under a year ago winning it on Jan. 14, 2008.  Current senior Khalil Hartwell (12/18/08) also won the award last season.
