Barroetavena Wins in Consolation Action

| By:
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's tennis team played a pair of singles matches at the Southern Intercollegiate today.  Senior Manuel Barroetavena (Buenos Aires, Argentina) won his consolation match while fellow senior Chris Smith (Johnson City, Tenn.) fell in the third round of the main draw.

"There has been some rain in the area so they are going to push back the rest of the consolation matches to tomorrow," explained UTC head coach Carlos Garcia.  "We had a couple of guys get in their early matches, but the rest will play on Sunday."

Barroetavena defeated Florida's Luke Johnson (6-1, 6-3) in consolation action.  Smith fell to ETSU's Rogerio Ribeiro (6-1, 6-2) in the third round.

"Manuel continues to play well," added Garcia.  "He put pressure on his opponent and controlled most of the match.  Chris was one of the last ones off the court last night, so he had some heavy legs playing this morning.  He played a tough opponent and had a good showing overall.  He is the first one I have had make it to the third round here, so it was a good weekend for him."

Barroetavena will be joined by seniors Stephen Crofford (Franklin, Tenn.) and Jackson Tresnan (Apopka, Fla.) and freshman Pavels Grigorjevs (Riga, Latvia) in tomorrow's consolation.  Crofford will take on Lipscomb's David Salazar and Tresnan faces Liberty's Guillem Secanell.  Grigorjevs is scheduled to face Kennesaw State's Alexander Pena.
