SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Southern Conference announced its Player of the Week winner for Women's Basketball on Tuesday afternoon, with this week's award going to junior guard
Caia Elisaldez, which marks the second week in a row a Chattanooga player has won this award.Â
This comes after Elisaldez had two standout performances at the CBU Classic where the Mocs went 1-1 with a win over Sacramento State. This is the first time this season and the third time in her career that Elisaldez has been named SoCon Player of the Week.Â
Playing in front of several family and friends in her home state of California for the first time as a College Basketball player, Elisaldez showed out. In the 59-57 win over Sacramento State, she scored a game-high 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting. Most notably, Elisaldez drew a foul with one second remaining and knocked down two free throws to secure the Mocs the win and send them to the Championship game. This was the third game this season that she had scored 20 points or more.Â
The next day against UC Santa Barbara, Elisaldez scored 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting in a close 64-66 loss. She also tallied four rebounds and three assists. For the week, she averaged 19.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game.Â
Through nine games, Elisaldez leads Chattanooga and ranks third in the SoCon in scoring with 14.2 points per game. She also leads the Mocs and ranks second in the league in assists per game with 4.2.
Elisaldez and the rest of the Mocs return to action on Sunday, December 7 against Bellarmine. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. from McKenzie Arena.Â
