Boykin, Shakur to Compete at NWCA All-Star Classic

Two Mocs are set to participate in season-opening showcase in Atlanta, Ga.
Two members of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wrestling team are participating in undercard matches at the NWCA All-Star Classic in Atlanta, Ga., this weekend. Junior Scottie Boykin and freshman Kamaal Shakur are set to compete in the event put on by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.Â
Action takes place at Georgia Tech's McCamish Pavilion on Sunday, Nov. 1. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. (E.S.T.) with the undercard matches beginning at 3:15 p.m.Â
The main event starts at 5:00 p.m. and complete information is available on www.theallstarclassic.com. Hosted by Wrestlers in Business – Atlanta, the NWCA All-Star Classic is in its 50th year.Â
Boykin enters the season at No. 15 at 197 pounds. He is paired up against Army's Bryce Barnes. Shakur is a promising 157-pound redshirt freshman who will go against N.C. State's Chad Pike.Â
"I think anytime you can get guys in an event of this caliber it is a great thing for our program, from a publicity standpoint," stated head coach Heath Eslinger. "I also think they are two guys who are super-deserving. They are both very talented and are going to do great things this year."
UTC is picked to win the Southern Conference for the 30th time since joining the league in 1978. The Mocs return six starters for last year's team that won both the SoCon regular season and tournament titles.Â
Season tickets are on sale now on GoMocs.com or by calling the UTC Ticket Office at (423) 266-MOCS (6627). The first home dual is Saturday, Nov. 7, against No. 24 Stanford at 11:00 a.m. in Maclellan Gym.
