Saturday – Nov. 14, 2015TEAM- The No. 8/9 Chattanooga Mocs posted a 31-23 win over No. 20/21 The Citadel at Finley Stadium today … the win gives UTC a share of its third straight Southern Conference title with a 6-1 mark in league play, 8-2 overall … the Bulldogs drop to 6-1 in SoCon action and 7-3 on the year.
- UTC secures the SoCon's automatic bid to the FCS Playoffs for the second year in a row and the third time in school history ... seventh SoCon title overall (1977t, 1978, 1979t, 1984, 2013t, 2014, 2015t).
- Today was the 80
th game in the
Russ Huesman era. He improved to 49-31 for a .613 winning percentage. In the 80 games prior to his return to the Scenic City, the Mocs were 19-61 (.238).
- The Mocs held an opponent scoreless in the first half for the second time this season (Presbyterian).Â
- First play from scrimmage was a 75-yard TD pass from
Alejandro Bennifield to
Xavier Borishade for a score … took 12 seconds … quickest TD for the Mocs in Division I history … longest pass play of the season … fastest points for the Mocs since a safety on the first snap (14:53) at Arkansas on Oct. 6, 2007 … UTC opened last year's game at The Citadel with a 66-yard pass completion from
Jacob Huesman to
C.J. Board for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage.
- The Mocs had two 100-yard receivers
C.J. Board (5-116) and
Xavier Borishade (5-107) for the first time in a game since Clint Woods (175) and Blue Cooper (159) did it against Cumberland in 2008.
- UTC won its 12
th straight SoCon game in Finley Stadium ... the last league loss at home was in overtime to No. 2 Georgia Southern (38-31) on Oct. 27, 2012.
- Today's attendance of 11,495 is the second-highest for the Mocs in November in school history. UTC had 12,090 against Wofford on Nov. 9, 2013.Â
- Today's win was the 32
nd for the 2015 senior class, break a tie with Coach Huesman's 1981 class for second all-time at UTC. The 1980 seniors have the school record with 33 wins.Â
- Chattanooga came into the game leading the SoCon in rushing defense (140.1). UTC held The Citadel's triple-option attack to 291 rushing yards … that was well below its average of 349 that was No. 2 in the FCS.
- The Mocs snapped The Citadel's five-game winning streak … their longest since 1994-95 and longest in a single season since 1992.
- UTC quarterbacks
Jacob Huesman (192) and
Alejandro Bennifield (75) combined for 267 passing yards … most in a game by the Mocs this season … Bennifield's came on the opening play of the game.
- Chattanooga averaged a season-high 9.4 yards per game in the win.

Jacob Huesman – Sr.-QB

- 15 carries for 118 yards and two TDs.
- Two rushing TDs today give him 40 for his career … fourth all-time at the FCS level with 40 rushing and 40 passing TDs ... other three to accomplish the feat are Armanti Edwards (Appalachian St. (2006-09), 65 rush - 74 pass), David Dinkins (Morehead St. (1997-00), 63 rush - 51 pass) and John Robertson (Villanova (2011-15), 48 rush - 65 pass).
- 240 career points is two shy of the school record set by Matt Vick (1997-00)
- Topped 100 yards rushing for the 14
th time in his career, breaking a tie for the school record with Eldra Buckley (2005-06), James Roberts (1989-93) and Mike Smith (1978-80).
- 3,804 career rushing yards passed David Dinkins (Morehead State – 1997-00) for sixth all-time among FCS quarterbacks.
- 11,555 career yards for total offense passes Dave Dickenson (Montana – 1992-95) for 22
nd in FCS history.
- 703 career completions passes Greg Ryan (ETSU – 1993-96) for fourth all-time in the SoCon.
