Postgame Quotes at Tennessee

Chattanooga Basketball Postgame Quotes
Chattanooga at Tennessee
Thompson Boling Arena – Knoxville, Tenn.
Monday – Nov. 23, 2015

Head Coach Jim Foster
Opening thoughts on the game:
"
Queen and Ari, it is going to take a little bit of time.  One is coming off an ACL and the other sat out for a year and a half.  Obviously tonight, Queen is a very aggressive player and was attacking more.  Ainsley off the bench was terrific.

"It's a player's game.  I did not like their eyes in the first quarter.  I don't like the look of fear.  I don't like the look of 'I don't want the responsibility.'  We kept talking about that and you could see it starting to disappear.

"Jazz has got to get smarter.  We can't play lengths of time with her on the bench.  Her competitive spirit is such that she wants to block every shot and you can't.  Shot-blockers have to be smart.  Hopefully, she is going to pick up from that.

"The effort was there.  We need to continue to get better at a lot of things.

On the post players shooting hitting threes:
"
We have been having trouble shooting the three.  Then it turns out maybe our two best three-point shooters are our centers.  We have worked with both of them and want them to become better at it.

"It just makes you more difficult to play.  Now we can put five beyond the three point line at times.  That is an advantage."

On switching to a zone defense:
"
We can play a lot of different defenses and do a lot of different things, defensively.  We just need to grow. There is not rest for the weary.  This is the toughest schedule this program has ever played.  You are here, then Arkansas State is coming in and they were second in their league.  Then UT-Martin is coming in and they won their league.  Then the best team in the country comes in.  You can't run and hide.  Eventually, it toughens you."

Final thoughts on the game:
"
I thought we played hard.  That is a developing trait of this team.  Without your second-leading scorer and another dominant ball-handler, we almost figured out a way."

On the adjustments at halftime:
The first quarter it was turnover after turnover.  I fouled early, so I had to go to the bench.  The second quarter, we changed up and we went (zone).  That's when we started to get tough.  We went into the locker room and kept saying this game is not over.

Third and fourth quarter we became a whole different team.  The team we have been looking for the past three or four games.  Players started stepping up.  Queen stepped up big, Ansley stepped up big."
