Lampe Named SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week

Lampe has a 3.97 GPA as a History and Education major.
Chattanooga senior John Lampe (Fairdale, Ky.) was named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition that was held Nov. 18-24, the league office announced Wednesday. This is the second week in a row a Moc has won the award, making UTC the only school to earn three honors this year.
Lampe clinched three wins to score first place in the 184-pound class at the Wolfpack Open Sunday. In the first round, he pinned Gardner-Webb's Payton Mills in 50 seconds. Lampe scored a 6-4 decision over another Gardner-Webb wrestler, Hunter Gamble. In the championship match, he marked a 2-1 decision in overtime against Newberry's Huston Evans.
Lampe boasts a 3.97 grade point average as a History and Education major. He is a two-time Academic All-SoCon honoree and four-time SoCon Commissioner's Medal recipient.
The Chattanooga wrestling team faces VMI Dec. 10 in Lexington, Va., to kick off league action. The next home dual is Dec. 18 against No. 15 Ohio at 6:00 p.m. in Maclellan Gym.
