The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wrestling team opens the 2015-16 regular season this weekend.  UTC welcomes No. 24 Stanford to Maclellan Gym on Saturday, Nov. 7, and then hits the road for the Hokie Open in Blacksburg, Va., on Sunday, Nov. 8.

CHATTANOOGA MOCS (0-0, 0-0 SOCON)
Chattanooga is picked to win the Southern Conference race for the 30^th time since joining the league in 1978.  The Mocs return six starters and four NCAA qualifiers from last year's team that went 13-6 overall and 7-0 in league action. 
Head Coach Heath Eslinger is entering his seventh season at UTC.  A two-time Southern Conference Coach of the Year, he owns a 74-41 (643) career dual record.

The Mocs are young at the top of their lineup, with eight freshmen listed among the probables in the first six weight classes.  Junior Scottie Boykin is the highest ranked Moc, starting the season at No. 14 in the Intermat Top-20 at 197 pounds.  Junior Jared Johnson is also ranked No. 20 at heavyweight according to Intermat. 

STANFORD CARDINAL (1-0, 0-0 PAC-12)
Stanford is off to a 1-0 start after a 35-6 win at Cal Poly on Monday.  The Cardinal is ranked No. 24 in the Intermat Tournament Top-25.

Coached by Jason Borelli, who is in his eighth season with a 71-62-3 record, Stanford is coming off an 11-4 campaign and a third place finish in the Pac-12 at 4-1.  The Cardinal finished 35^th at the 2015 NCAAs with 8.0 points.  They welcome back nine starters and 21 lettermen, including four who advanced to the NCAAs.

Junior Jim Wilson leads the team as a returning All-American.  He placed eighth at the NCAA Championships and is a two-time Pac-12 champion.  He is one of three in the probable lineup who is currently ranked in the top 20, checking in at No. 4 at 165 pounds.  Freshman Joey McKenna (No. 12 – 141) and sophomore Nathan Butler (No. 13 – 285) are the other two ranked in the Intermat Top-20 this week. 

ALL-TIME SERIES RESULTS
UTC is 2-1 all-time against the Cardinal in three tightly contested matches.  Stanford won the first meeting (20-17) in Palo Alto, Calif., on Dec. 17, 2010.  UTC scored a 22-15 win over a 12^th-ranked Cardinal team in Maclellan Gym on Dec. 20, 2011.  Current assistant coach Niko Brown clinched that win with a pin at 197. 

Chattanooga had a 25-13 win over 15^th-ranked Stanford the last time these two teams met o Dec. 20, 2013, in Palo Alto, Calif. That match featured Nick Soto's upset against then-No. 1 Ryan Mango at 133 pounds.

HOKIE OPEN
Both teams head out following the dual to Blacksburg, Va., for the Hokie Open on Sunday.  Action takes place at the Rector Field House, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Participating teams include No. 7 Virginia Tech, No. 9 North Carolina State, No. 10 North Carolina, No. 22 West Virginia, No. 24 Stanford, Appalachian State, Campbell, Chattanooga, Columbia, Duke, Gardner-Webb, George Mason, Virginia, VMI, King and Notre Dame College.

The Mocs have 25 competing in the tournament, with the following in the Freshman/Sophomore Division: Alonzo Allen (125), Toribio Navarro (125), Chris Debien (133), Cody Hill (133), Jake Huffine (133), Roman Boylen (141), Andrew Webb (149), Jacob Murphy (149), Trey Watson (149), Zach Shareef (149), Demarco Gatti (165), Dominic Lampe (165), Chad Solomon (174), Justin Lampe (184), Rod Jones (197) and Sam Stephenson (285). 

The following individuals are representing the Mocs in the Open Division:  Austin Gould (133), Michael Pongracz (141), Kamaal Shakur (157), Barrett Walthall (174), Sean Mappes (174), John Lampe (184), Scottie Boykin (197), Connor Tolley (285) and Jared Johnson (285).

Mappes placed third in the open division at 174 pounds last season, along with Boykin at 197.  Johnson had a fifth place finish at heavyweight in this tournament a year ago.
