2015-16 Chattanooga Mocs Men's Basketball
Post-game Quotes - Dec. 12, 2015 - at Dayton
Head Coach Matt McCall
On what was said before the game. "The biggest thing I talked to the guys last night and even a little bit in the locker room was that we're built to handle adversity. We've been handling it all year. At Georgia, Tre McLean, E-Rob and Tuoyo were all in foul trouble. We also lost Duke to an injury, and we found a way to win that game. I'm not a big believer in 'man up or man down', and one of our biggest strengths is our depth. Everyone stepped up to play the game tonight. We really played the right way."
Â
On Dayton's second half run.
"They started the game in the second half on a 13-2 run, and I still felt like we were getting good shots, but some of them didn't go down. They were making some difficult ones and we just had to stick to the course. I kept telling our guys in the huddle that we've been here before. We were up big on Illinois and they came back and we ended up winning the game. We were up big on Georgia, they came back and we ended up winning the game. So we've been here before and we had to keep pounding the rock, playing the right way and sticking with it right now.
Â
"They (Dayton) are a terrific team and if they won tonight's game they'd probably be ranked in the Top 25 with the schedule that they've played and the team's they've beaten. I've been in a lot of environments and this one was just as good as anyone I've ever been in. It was pretty much sold out and it was loud in here tonight."
Â
On staying in control throughout the game.
"I told our guys that no one in the crowd is coming onto the floor, and the game is going to be decided in between the lines. We have to focus on every single possession. We have to keep that in mind and if they did make a run, then it's about focusing on the next play and staying in the moment. We never let it get out of hands there and we had some guys rally around and focus on the next possession. It really felt like our guys did a great job of keeping the floor space, driving it, getting down on the lane and finding our bigs on the baseline."
Â
On Pryor's free throws on the final seconds.
"Last play of the game, we tell Greg to run a spread pick-and-roll, and he really got at their five man. He got the guy on his heels and he was able to get up there and get fouled. I don't think he scored in the first half and he ended the game with 15 points and was 7-for-9 from the free throw line. That's what you want in your point guard. Those two at the end of the game were great."
Â
On moving forward after the win over Dayton.
"Anytime you're able to beat big-level schools and then beat a team like Dayton who's going to be Top 25 and in the NCAA Tournament, it's a good win. I think our guys are hungry. They are hungry for more and we don't have a lot of time to celebrate. We're going to jump on this bus for a quick turnaround this Tuesday night against a very good Tennessee Tech team."
Tre' McLean, Jr.-F
On overcoming adversity on the road.
"The biggest thing was staying together. I told the guys before the game that we needed to stay together. For 40 minutes we had to stay together. All the guys who came with us on this bus is who we needed to get it done tonight, and that's what we did to get this win."
Â
On withstanding Dayton's second-half run.
"We knew that when they came out in the half that they were going to come at us. They have this big win streak at home and I knew that was in the back of their minds. We've been there before and we've said it the entire time that we need to stick together, and the entire night that is what we did."
Â
On getting another statement win and having a veteran team.
"We knew that this win would get people talking about us even more. I think that after the Georgia and Illinois game, people just figured that it was just one of those Cinderella wins. We knew that we are a good team, and that Dayton was a very good team because we watched them beat Vanderbilt. We knew that we were capable of getting the win."
Â
On trading baskets in the final five minutes.
"Those last couple of minutes just came down to stops. We've been in this position before and we knew that if we just continued to get stops, we would walk out with this win."
Â
On strong start with tough schedule.
"To be 7-2 win the wins that we have so far, that's a great start. We just beat a very good team."
Â
Greg Pryor, Sr.-G
On getting the win against a good Dayton team."We just ended one of the nation's' longest win streaks, but we can't be satisfied with this win because we have a long schedule to go. We're going to have fun with this one for 24 hours, and then the next day is a new day for us to correct any mistakes and focus on the next one."
Â
On playing without Casey Jones tonight.
"We came out here tonight and played our hearts out for him. It showed our bond as a team, our love as a team and that we can win through any adversity. We came through and we stayed together. We always look at who we're playing for and what we're here for as a team."
On hitting crucial free throws with five seconds left.
"It's just me and the rim at that time. I just focus on that at all times when I'm on the line. When I'm off the line I can listen to everything else, but when I'm on the line, it's me and the rim at all times."
Â
When was the last time you were faced with that scenario?
"I saw a lot of that in high school, but as far as having it come that close to the end of the game, that's my first time in college."
Â
On breaking Dayton's 26-game win streak.
"It's definitely a good win for us and Dayton is a great team with a great coach. They played an unbelievable game tonight and had the big run against us. They did a lot of things that showed that we still have some things to work on, and we just have to try to continue to go forward and continue to fix it. As a college basketball you have to take it one game at a time, put in the hard work and things will fall in place for us."
