Head coach Jim FosterOn a 27-17 run for the Mocs in the fourth quarter settling the game."What we've seen in our last two games is the schedule we play, we had to play every night. We had to play every minute of every game. We're starting to get to a point in the season where teams that don't have to do that, maybe they don't have the intensity that's necessary to finish out games.
"We capped the last two games because we learned by playing, it's about 40 minutes. The other day East Carolina was 16 or 14 in the country, something like that, in RPI. I think we've played as strong a schedule as anyone in the country. The by-product of that is we get a little tougher."
On East Carolina being a swarming-type of defensive team."I stressed that we really needed to be in a mindset of running offense for longer periods of time against this team. Teams that play defense that way, they want quick jolts. The longevity of a possession often times is going to give you a great try because they haven't had to play with discipline through a defensive cycle.
"If you come down and want to trade shots with them and take quick shots with them, you're just making a big mistake, because they are very, very talented. They have some very talented individuals. Our patience and just playing good basketball. We had a lot of layups today as a result of that so it was a solid win for us."
On success from the three throw line."We legitimately got fouled, and up until the end, when the game was sort of in hand, we may be lost a little bit of concentration. I felt like at a certain point in time, we did a really, really good job at the foul line.
"
Ansley Chilton came in and played a big-time shot. We know she can shoot that shot. I thought
Queen Alford did a terrific job on the defensive boards and helped
Moses Johnson."
On individual performances."
Alicia Payne did a very good job. She had a couple blips, but she'll correct them. I felt like
Keiana Gilbert has taken some steps and strides towards being a very, very good basketball player, who has a lot of different dimensions. Today, she scored 21 points, had six rebounds and five assists, but she also guarded the other team's best player.
"That player was leading the team in points, but she had three or four points under what she averages. She had to work for those 18. Keiana was not only providing us scoring, she was providing us playmaking, and on the defensive end, I thought she did a very good job."
Keiana Gilbert, guard, sophomoreOn great team effort being key."We had to start playing together as a team. They're very athletic and a very good team. We knew we had to stop them defensively and we had to score offensively. I think we did that well."
On holding Jada Payne, East Carolina's leading scorer, to three points below her average."We knew we had to try to limit her on her shots. We tried to keep them off the glass, but they still got some offensive rebounds. We just tried to limit them that way. They didn't get as many as they usually do."
On not having a lot of rebounding because of high shooting percentage. We executed very well in the fourth quarter offensively and got some good looks and shots going in.
On team playing without a few players battling injuries."We have some key players down right now, but we can't focus on that. They've learned to be vocal leaders since they can't be on the court with us. They help us see what we don't see. They lead us from there."
