Chattanooga Basketball Postgame Quotes
Chattanooga at Wofford
Johnson Arena – Chattanooga, Tenn.
Thursday – Jan. 7, 2016Head Coach Jim FosterOpening thoughts on the game:We shot ourselves in the foot on more than one occasion. That's the bad thing about this team. The good thing about this team is they don't stop. They play very hard. They scrounge around and get done what we had to get done.
On the play of Queen Alford:"Obviously,
Queen Alford played a terrific game. She got a lot of confidence by scoring around the basket. We posted her up a lot. When you make baskets, it gets a little easier to take a three. Once she made the first, she took her time on the second one."
On the play in the third quarter:"We were over dribbling and trying to make things happen instead of moving the ball and taking advantage of opportunities. We had a number of post-up opportunities and
Keiana Gilbert could go into the lane or on the perimeter and get the shots that she likes. But we were trying to make things happen. They were packed into the land and you can't drive into traffic.
"They were physical, very physical. We have to be able to respond and a couple of our players did not respond to physical play. Jazz has to be smart. She just has to be smart. She cannot get into foul trouble early. There were just two very important fouls early on and neither of them should have been. She should not have tried to block either shot and she has got to understand that."
On the improving confidence of Keiana Gilbert:
"Keiana is taking more shots and we want her to take more shots. We want her to be assertive. I have said this before, a couple of years ago it was Taylor (Hall) as a senior, last year it was Ka'Vonne (Towns). They like the pressure and want the ball.
"Now we are asking a sophomore. Seniors have played in 100+ college games and have played in conference championship games, NCAA Tournament and big games on the road and we are asking a sophomore. I thought she did a very good job. Queen obviously did a great job off the bench. We just have to keep plugging along and improve in certain areas."
On pulling out the win:"Again, I will say it. Our defense allows us to stay close when we struggle offensively. It allows us to stay within striking range. They got a little bit of a lead on us. Then all of the sudden we were up double figures."
