Barco Wins in Singles at ITA Regional

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga sophomore McKenzie Barco won a match in the Singles B Flight at the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals in Murfreesboro, Tenn., today. She scored a three-set win in the morning action at MTSU.
Still working her way back into the lineup after offseason surgery, Barco had to retire in her second match, but still had a strong day. She defeated Austin Peay's Ana Albertson (7-6 (4), 5-7, 6-3) in a tough battle.
"I am proud of Mckenzie and how she is improving after her surgery," stated head coach Chad Camper. "She came out and played through all of the ups and downs today. That was a big step for her and the future of our season."
Sophomore Sydney Patton also competed in today's qualifying draw. She dropped a battle with UT-Martin's Asel Jumamukhambelova [7-6 (3), 7-6 (10)]. Both sets went to tie breakers, with the second extra frame taking 22 points to decide the outcome.
"Sydney played some tough tennis," added Camper. "Even though she fell a bit short, she came off the court learning a lot and that's was the fall season is about."
The Mocs return to action tomorrow morning with sophomores Delaney Edwards and Caroline Hall in singles play in the main draw. Delaney and Patton and scheduled to play doubles in the afternoon and Patton also has a consolation singles match.
