Chattanooga Football Postgame Quotes
Wofford at Chattanooga
Finley Stadium – Chattanooga, Tenn.
Saturday – Nov. 12, 2016
Head Coach Russ Huesman
Opening thoughts on the game:
"We didn't play well enough to win, they made more plays than we did. You cannot give up a kickoff return for a touchdown, a safety, or a turnover on the five-yard line. We didn't play well enough on either side of the football.
"Wofford made plays when they had to, you have to give them credit. Both teams fought, and the team that doesn't turn the ball over usually wins the game and that's what happened today."
How did you feel about Bennifield's play today?
"He made some plays. We only got 265 yards of total offense, that isn't good. No we did not play well enough."
Concerns about rush defense?
"These teams are hard to defend with so many personnel groupings. Our defense played well, I am not putting this on our defense. They did get us with a few crucial plays, but we played good enough defense to win and hold a good offense down. If we don't have interceptions or give up kickoff returns we probably hold them to under 20 points."
How did you feel about tackling today?
"Wofford's running back is a good back, but our guys were trying to strip the ball. We needed to get turnovers, and outside of the 4
th down stops we didn't get those turnovers."
Senior Receiver C.J. Board
On today's offense:
"It was all about getting started and trying to figure out what worked for us. But it happens. You can't have a perfect game. Stuff like that just happens, but you just got to worry about the next play."
On today's turnovers:
"It's just something you can't control and stuff like that happens too. You just have to overcome it and again get back to the next play."
On focuses for Alabama:
"I think the main focus for this week is to learn from this game and get better. Both defense and offense needs to get better and I think we'll be okay."
Senior Defensive End Keionta Davis
How frustrating are games like this?
"We just couldn't catch that rhythm like we normally do. Usually, we're a really good team at rallying when we need to, making plays when we need to, and stopping the mistakes we were making before.
"I think we felt like we were going in the right direction and then we'd make a mistake. Something we'll have to work on, something we'll have to capitalize on."
Junior Quarterback Alejandro Bennifield
Thoughts on the game:
"I had a few key mistakes of the game. I feel like I could have played a lot better. The mistakes I made cost us the game. Our defense played well, the offensive line blocked for me, the receivers made plays, but I feel like my game could have been a lot better."
Picking up after defensive creates opportunity
"We just have to convert and take advantage of the opportunities that we have. Our defense is great, they're always going to give us opportunities like that, but if we don't convert this is going to be the result."
