Post-Game Quotes vs. Tennessee Wesleyan
Chattanooga, Tenn. – Dec. 14 – McKenzie Arena
Matt McCall, Head Coach
Opening statement after win over Tennessee Wesleyan.
"I think today is a hard game in the sense of fighting human nature, haven't played in eight days, it's an early game at noon on a Wednesday, not playing a D-I team, so there's a lot of factors to today's game where you could come out and approach the game the wrong way. Our guys came out and did not do that. You could tell early on our guys were gassed and tired, but you could see them fight that off and play the game the right way. I was proud of that because we had to get that week out of us of not playing games and get ready for the Christmas stretch."
On the bench playing valuable minutes.
"You look down at the minutes, the guys that came off the bench played most of the minutes. I think it's a great experience to get those guys out there and gain experience playing. Some games down the line you'll have to rely on those certain guys. This game experience for those guys is really important and I was happy to see them play that much and succeed in today's game."
On the play of Dylan Brewster.
"When you have a kid like him on your team, that is totally consumed with our program and a complete server of our program. It's never about Dylan, it's always about what's best for the team. It doesn't matter. What ever the team needs, Dylan does. I get a lot of joy out of seeing him have success on the floor. It's because of his approach and the type of person he is. He wants to serve our program, and when you have a guy like that it elevates your team. It says a lot about the person he is."
On the play of Casey Jones.
"I think when Chuck (Ester) went down, Casey (Jones) saw the impact Chuck had on our team defensively. Casey really wanted to step into that role and take over defensively. There'll be nights where he puts up 20 points because he's an electric type player. They'll be games where it's just his night. He has such an appreciation of being out there and just being on the floor. I think Casey sitting back and watching things transpire last year, he wants to win. How can he impact winning and what does this team need him to do. He is only concerned about getting back to last year's level and taking it further. He is completely consumed in winning, he's an ultimate winner."
Casey Jones, Sr.-F
On being out on the floor.
"It's good to be playing. I love playing with my teammates, whether it's practice, shoot around or a game. I just love being out there playing basketball with these guys."
Playing after long layoff.
"It helped get our legs under us again. It helped to get out there against an opponent and play hard to replicate what you want to do every night. It was fun to get out there and get after it again."
On playing tough defense and not worrying about previous injuries.
"I try to get into that role rather than shooting the ball. I'm trying to make up for what we lost in Chuck, I can't do it quite as well, but I try my best. I feel great, when the ball is tipped, I'm ready to play. I'm not focused on what injuries I went through previously. I feel good out there."
Tre' McLean, Sr.-G
Statement on today's win.
"Games like this, we have to be more focused because it's easy to not get as enthusiastic. I think these games are the type of games we try to be over excited for and take steps forward as a team."
On UTC hosting education day.
"I enjoyed seeing those kids in the stands. It reminded me of being a kid in elementary school watching basketball players and thinking 'I want to be in those shoes one day', it was fun seeing them here today."
On moving forward to face Vanderbilt.
"Once the game is over, we'll enjoy the win for the night, and then get ready for the next task at hand. It's one game at a time. We are trying to be successful and win at the level we want to win at. We can't let a previous game effect us moving forward, it's just one game at a time."
