You don't earn two Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Year awards without being an intimidating force. That can come in the paint or on the perimeter depending on where your most tormenting strength lies.
For
Justin Tuoyo, that is most definitely in the paint. The top shot blocker in Chattanooga's proud basketball history, Tuoyo took over when it mattered most in a 74-62 home win over Mercer.
His first of three blocks put him in first-place in school record books passing the "Jessup Giant" Stanley Lawrence (1980-83). The last one cemented a win.
The Mocs dominated from the jump leading by as many as 22, 29-7, just 11 minutes into the contest. The Bears cut it to two when
Greg Pryor and Tuoyo took over.
Pryor started it with a huge 3pt with 2:36 to play. Mercer came down and tried to go inside. Bad choice. In one motion, Tuoyo blocked and rebounded Desmond Ringer's offering. He scored 19 seconds later to get the lead back to seven en route to the 12-point victory.
Tuoyo scored all 11 of his points in the second half as well as two of his blocks. The first brought individual achievement, while the third helped seal another great team effort.
