Chattanooga Football Postgame Quotes
Chattanooga at Samford
Seibert Stadium – Birmingham, Ala.
Saturday – Oct. 28, 2017
Head Coach Tom Arth
Thoughts on the win:
"I am just so proud of the guys. I told them in there, those last 20 seconds when we got down in the range, just have complete faith in Victor to go out and execute it. He made the kick … those last 20 second were so emotional, so emotional for me because of the fight.Â
"These guys overcame so much adversity throughout the course of that game. So many things that could have gone wrong did and we just kept responding, over and over again. We handled the situation so well. Things that we pride our program and we work so hard at every single day, all of these situations we executed them incredibly well today. Just so proud of our team and the fight. Just a really great win."
On getting the win despite four turnovers: Â
"Doesn't happen a lot. I have been part of a few. Last year, we had a few games we turned it over four times and found a way. When you know you have really good people that believe in each other and fight for each other and lay it on the line for each other, that is what these guys did today. Â
"I am so proud of them and I am so happy for them. They deserve all of the credit in the world for this, they have fought and persevered through some tough times and to come out here and play the way we played against a team as good as Samford who is coached as well as they are speaks volumes for the character for our team."Â
On defending Samford's passing attack:
"That was part of the plan. Part of the plan was to affect him. There are a lot of ways to affect the quarterback. Sometimes you get it with sacks and pressure and hitting him. Sometimes you get it with hurries.Â
"I think we got him a little uncomfortable at times and he made some uncharacteristic mistakes. That was a result of the pressure our defense live and our linebackers when they were blitzing were creating. We were able to drop some people out in some zones. He didn't see them. Taylor Reyonlds got an interception. Being at home I think he had about 40 people here. He recovered a fumble. Just really, really happy for those guys and so proud of the way our defense played today."Â
On the overall craziness of the game today:
"It was a crazy game. There were a lot of really bad mistakes on our part. When you are backed up and you just get a turnover and you get it right back. When you are going in, inside the five year line to make that type of mistake it is hard to overcome that type of stuff.Â
"You have to give so much credit to our team. Especially our defense. They were put in some sports late in the game and they kept responding they kept making plays. They kept making it right. We knew that if we got that thing back we were going to be in great shape. It is situations that we work on all of the time and we were able to go out there and execute it."
On things to work on:
"We have to take care of the ball a lot better. That has been a problem for us all year long, but this is a big win. I don't want to take anything away from that. There are obviously some things we are going to go back and really need to correct and improve on. The fight in these guys, finding a way to win and having that will, they were not going to be denied today."Â
On the play of Lucas Webb:
"I am proud of lucas. He is such a good person. He is such a hardworking person and a great leader. He is such a great example for all of us. Not just as a football player, most importantly as a person. You just know that people like that, they keep fighting and keep working, great things happen to them. That was certainly one of those moments today and I am very, very proud of him."Â
On forcing turnovers today:
"I told those DBs it am going to take credit for all of those interceptions. I had to go be Hodges in practice this week and I probably threw about 30 interceptions this week.  My arm is killing me. They destroyed me, they hurt my confidence. Then they went out here and played a great game."Â
On the play of
Alex Trotter:
"Trotter came in an Darrel had a couple of injuries and still came back. Trotter came in and made some big runs for us. Got us down in thee. Very, very happy for him. He has been under the radar all year long. He has been right there ready to go and made the most of it today."Â
On the resiliency of this team:Â
"We knew they were going to make a run. We wanted to keep the pressure on them. Coming out of halftime, we knew they were going to make a run. We knew they were going to make some plays. We have to be ready for it and we have to withstand it. We handled it and we handled it well. We came up with some really big turnovers and it was a huge part of the win."Â
Lucas Webb – Sr.-DB
On the defense getting seven takeaways:
"I'm thankful for and proud of our defense. Just the unselfishness that they showed. To be able to just do their job and show that hard work pays off. I'm glad that everyone seemed to get a little piece of it. Taylor (Reynolds) got the first interception of his career. It's great to see things like that and how those things contribute to such a hard-fought game like this."
On the signature win:
"It's been a rough season and we've been waiting on this moment, practicing hard. Even though we've had a rough season, losing a couple games, we just come to practice hard every day. It doesn't matter what our record is we come and practice hard. The guys showed up today as coach talked about in pre-game, just keep swinging at the rock and it finally broke, today was our breakthrough."Â
Taylor Reynolds - Sr.-DL
On the interception:
"First, we had a great game plan. We made a couple drop calls for defensive end sitting right in his window. The one Lucas had, I was right there at it. I saw it come out of nowhere and took it. Great game plan that's all that was it, got tipped and fell in my hands which was hard to do. I was trying to go and felt the receiver coming on my hip. It was a dream come true, my first one in my career. I'm really excited.
On playing against a QB who gets the ball out of his hands so quickly:
"We knew that going into the game he was going to get it out quick. We just had to keep pressuring him, closing the pocket, making him uncomfortable, that was our goal. I felt like we didn't get as many sacks as we like, but at the end of the day we kept him off what he wanted to do forcing him to make some bad plays."Â
Alex Trotter - Jr.-RB
On the last carry to set up the game-winning field goal:
"It was a lot of pressure going in my mind. Â I know that my guys are behind me and it's a team game. Offensive line put the hole in the right spot and I just hit it. My fullback came in clutch on that play. I wouldn't have made that run without my offensive line."
On toughing out the win:
"Man, it was a big dog fight. Samford has a good defense, they're a good team, hard-fought game. My team fought harder, the guys in the locker room fought hard, defense fought hard, offense hard, the coaches fought hard. Just a hard-fought game we luckily came out with the win."Â
Victor Ulmo – Fr.-K
On the game-winning FG:
"Since I missed the PAT after the third touchdown, all types of situations crossed my mind. I knew Samford was a really good team who could come back. They ended up taking a one-point lead. At that point, I just wanted to get myself ready mentally to perform."
"I knew all the guys around would do their jobs. It makes it a lot easier for me. Great snap, great hold. I really have no words (about the kick). The offense did a great job putting me in a great position. 39 yards right down the middle…you can't ask for much more. (Alex) Trotter made a bunch of 10-plus-yard runs. Great job by the offensive line and Cole (Copeland). I'm just thankful they put me in position to get that chance."
