Chattanooga Football Postgame Quotes
No. 13/14 Chattanooga at No. 12 LSU
Tiger Stadium – Baton Rouge, La.
Saturday - Sept. 9, 2017
Head Coach Tom Arth
Opening statement
I think that definitely there was a lot of improvement from week one to week two. What we talked about with the team is that we are a very good football team when we execute. We're a very good football team when we know our job and when we do our job. We also learned that we're not a very good football team when we don't. That's going to be the most important thing for us is to really just improve our consistency and execute. What we have to do is we have to do it every single day. We got to do it on Sunday, tomorrow, when we're back in Chattanooga and we got to do it Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Every single day we've got to put ourselves in those game-like situations so we're challenging ourselves to be our best every single play. I think if we do that, and we take the right approach with that at practice, we're going to see even more improvement coming into week three.

On improvements made
I thought Darrel ran really well. I think offensively our offensive line, our tight ends, fullbacks did an outstanding job in the run game for the most part. We didn't have very many negative runs. Some runs were two yard gains but that's good, that's positive. AS long as we're staying in phase and going second and eight to third and six, we feel very good about our opportunity to convert. I was pleased about our run game, particularly in our 21 personnel it looked really, really good and that's definitely something we can build on in the future.
Â
I think that overall I don't know if anybody stands out right off the bat. As a group I was impressed with how we came out. I thought we came out offensively and put a fantastic drive together, convert some third downs. Executed very, very well. Took a lot of time off the clock. Unfortunately got down inside the five and didn't quite finish. Expected some man coverages, then end up playing zone. Having to kick a field goal, I thought that was real positive coming out that way, but then obviously need to finish those drives with touchdowns against an opponent like LSU.

On Guice
He's an outstanding player. He definitely was a major factor in the game. He had some great runs and I think that's an area we need to do better on, defending the run.
Â
Tae Davis - Sr.-LB
On first offensive drive
We mention to each other about finishing, about doing our job and everything. Offensive is driving down on their defense, that got me pretty excited.
Â
Nick Tiano - So.-QB
On the first drive
I think it was great for us. Everybody came out ready to go. We got a lot of tough guys. We came out and played hard and executed well on that first drive, really until we got down inside the red zone. Those are just little things we got to keep getter better on. When we execute we play well we move the ball up and down the field, but we've got to keep getting better every week.
Â
On a successful running game helping the passing game
That takes the pressure off of everybody, me, the offense, the defense, the coaches. Darrel breaks a long run, that takes a ton of pressure off everybody. Against a great team like that, every yard is tough, so to be able to run the ball well makes everybody's life easier.
Â
On what he can take away from this game
Improvement every week. Tonight we showed a lot of focus, we showed that we can do some good things. If everybody continues to get better we're all excited about this next opportunity. We're having fun, we're playing hard. We know we're getting better. I think everybody's excited about where we're going.
