Postgame Quotes
Lamont Paris, Head Coach
Opening statement after loss to ETSU.
"They were physical. We were physical, we got the ball inside and drew some fouls. On the perimeter, I felt like their pressure made us make some bad decisions. You can't turn the ball over like that against any team. I thought the pressure was part of that. Guys weren't reading and reacting to the defense and that's something we always talk about at practice. We've showed signs that we can do that and we have done that before. We need constant refreshing on what we're looking for and how to get it there. The little tricks and trades that can help you."
On competing hard & trying to close the gap.
"There were times where we competed hard and well in the second half. We cut it to 16 at one point and that's when it becomes basketball. You have to know that you can come back from that and have a way of doing it. You have to be methodical in what you do to make it more interesting. We just didn't make those plays when we needed to so it went the other way."
On poor free throw shooting.
"In the first half especially, it really hurt us. You have to convert. I talked to the guys that we have a very fine line of margin of error. We can't do that. When we do enough good things, we have to capitalize. When you get to the free throw line you have to shoot a favorable percentage. We'll continue to work on that."
Nat Dixon, So.-G
On free throw performance.
"I know as far as myself, I need to be better at the free throw line. It's not acceptable by any means. We have to keep shooting in the gym and get better."
On matching up against ETSU.
"They didn't really do anything we didn't think they would do. They are a great team and are well coached. We got away from our principles early. We had to settle in a little bit, but against a team like that it's really hard to come back when you get down that big."
Joshua Phillips, Sr.-F
On what was the difference.
"Learning from all my experiences between playing football and basketball, all the small things matter. Especially in close games, all the small things you don't correct are going to hurt you in the end."
