Mocs Add Van Dyke to Tennis Recruiting Class

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's tennis head coach Chuck Merzbacher announced the addition of Austin Van Dyke to the Mocs' 2018 recruiting class.  Van Dyke joins UTC from Saint Johns, Florida, where he is a three-star prospect according to TennisRecruiting.net.

A recipient of multiple sportsmanship awards from the USTA, Van Dyke is currently a top-30 player with a proven track record in arguably the top tennis state in the country.

Van Dyke recently placed sixth at the state championships in doubles and won the backdraw of a men's open. He reached the top-200, nationally, in the boys 16 age division.

He joins the Mocs via the Bolles Tennis Program, directed and coached by Brian Gottfried, a former No. 3 ATP singles player in the world and a graduate of Chattanooga's Baylor School.

"Austin certainly has the athleticism and strength to flourish at the collegiate level," stated Merzbacher. "There is no doubt that his best tennis is a head of him. He has a strong movement towards the net and he can finish points. His work ethic on the court and in the classroom is evident by his achievements in both areas."

Van Dyke is a member of the National Honor Society and the National English Honor Society at Creekside High School.
