CHATTANOOGA---Chattanooga Mocs junior golfer
Lake Johnson is this week's Southern Conference Golfer of the Week for play Feb. 28-March 7. It is his first such honor.
Johnson tied for 11th in the Tiger Invitational. He shot 3-under 213 for the three days with three par or better cards turning in 72, 69 and 72. It was his third career par or better total.
That continued his strong run. He's played level-par golf over his last nine cards (72.00). Seven of his nine par or better cards this season came over that stretch.
Johnson tied with 30th-ranked Brandon Mancheno (Auburn) and beat the ninth-ranked golfer in the nation, Hayden Buckley of Missouri, by nine strokes. His efforts helped UTC top seven teams including both SoCon opponents – UNCG and Samford – along with one power 5 conference school, Kansas State.
The last time a Moc captured Golfer of the Week honors was Brooks Thomas April 3 last year. His was the third of the spring with Wes Gosselin grabbing it twice. It's the 20th all-time for the program which is one shy of the league record held by Georgia Southern.
The Mocs tee off next Monday, March 12, at the Southern Intercollegiate. It's a one-day, 36-hole event hosted by Georgia at the Athens Country Club.
