University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's tennis head coach
Chuck Merzbacher announced the signing of Tomas Rodriguez today. A native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Rodriguez prepped at Colegio Everest in Santiago, Chile.
"We are super excited to have Tomas join our program next year," stated head coach
Chuck Merzbacher. "He certainly will be an impact player at the top of the line-up in singles and doubles. This young man has aspirations to play at the highest level, and he has the playing experience and background to flourish in college. He has played all over the world and competed against the world's best players in ITF competitions.
"You can tell that Tomas' hard work and drive will enable him to fit in well with our program here at UTC."
Rodriguez has qualified for the ITA World Cup each of the last four year and has participated twice. He has been ranked in the top 10 in his age group in Chile and has been as high as No. 11 in South America.
He was a semifinalist in doubles at the G4 XXII International Junior Championship in Santiago, Chile, in 2017. He was also a quarterfinalist in singles and doubles at the G4 "Indervalle" Open in Cali, Colombia, last season. Other career highlights include twice competing at the ISF World Schools Championships in both Qatar (2015) and Recife, Brazil (2016).
Rodriguez is the son of Ricardo and Valeria Rodriguez and has four sisters and two brothers. He also participated in soccer, skiing and swimming and is undecided on a major.
