CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team was recently recognized nationally for strong academic work. Rising senior
Lake Johnson led the squad earning Golf Coaches Association of America Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar honors.
The GCAA requires a 3.2 grade point average, junior in competition, 50 percent participation in team events and maintaining better than a 76.0 stroke average at the NCAA DI level. Johnson is one of 265 claiming the award in 2017-18.
He joins Derek Rende (2009-10), Stephan Jaeger (2011-12) and former teammates
Wes Gosselin (2016-17),
Phillip Hickam (2017) and
Stuart Thomas (2017).
The program was honored on the 18Birdies Team Academic Award list. The Mocs are an All-Academic Team with a 3.0 or better team GPA. Chattanooga is one of four Southern Conference members on the list joined by ETSU, Furman and UNCG.

The Chattanooga Mocs golf program has won six Southern Conference Championships (1987, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013) since joining the league in 1977-78. The Mocs have twice been ranked No. 1 in the nation during the falls of 2008 and 2009. It boasts:
