TEAM
- The Chattanooga Mocs scored a 66-0 win over NCAA Division II Shorter at Finley Stadium tonight. The Mocs won their season opener for the first time since 2009.
- UTC led 45-0 at the break. It is the second largest halftime lead in school history. The Mocs led Georgetown (Ky.) 52-0 at the break in an 86-0 win on Sept. 19, 1952.
- Chattanooga held Shorter to just 16 yards of total offense (14 rush, 2 pass).
- The 66 points scored are the most in the Russ Huesman era and the most for UTC since a 73-0 win over Kentucky State on Nov. 24, 2001 … 5th game in the Huesman era (since 2009) with 50+ points … first with 60+ points.
- The Mocs are 52-51 all-time at Finley Stadium … UTC is over .500 at Finley for the first time since the 2002 season … 24-10 in the Huesman era.
INDIVIDUAL
Alejandro Bennifield – Jr.-QB
- 8-11 passing for 135 yards and four TDs and one INT.
- Most TD passes in a game since Jacob Huesman threw four at Tennessee Tech on Nov. 15, 2014.
- First career start.
Derrick Craine – Sr.-RB
- 38 yards and a TD on nine carries.
- 20th career rushing TD is now tied for 5th all-time at UTC.
Tae Davis – Jr.-DB
- Team-high five tackles.
- Added a PBU and a QBH.
Vantrel McMillan – Sr.-DL
- Three tackles, including a game-high two sacks.
Chris Miller – Fr.-RB
- 89 yards and a TD on 15 carries.
- First career game.
Henrique Ribeiro – Sr.-K
- 12 points … 9-9 on PATs … 37-yard FG.
- 117 career PATs passes Matt Vick (1997-00) for the school record.
- 99 consecutive PATs made passes Appalachian State’s Julian Rauch (2005) for the fourth-longest streak in SoCon history.
Tyler Roberson – Jr.-QB
- Came into the game as a receiver in the second quarter and scored his first career TD on a 9-yard pass from Alejandro Bennifield.
- Played QB for the second half.
- 5-7 for 53 yards.
- Ran seven times for 36 yards and two TDs.
