FB Postgame Quotes - Shorter - Sept. 1, 2016
Coach Russ Huesman, head football coach
Reaction on tonight’s game…
“It was a good win, I hate to win games like that to be honest with you. They were a little decimated with injuries coming in with their best running back, starting quarterback and starting offensive linemen. I was proud of our guys and I was proud of the fact that we got to play a lot of kids today, so that was huge. A lot of guys that haven’t played football in a while got in the game today and it was nice to see that. We played a clean second half so I was happy about that.”
How did you feel about Alejandro’s play in the first half?
“He took probably too many shots for the limited time he ran the ball. He knew what he was doing out there, and he threw some good balls. C.J. Board’s catch in the corner was a great catch, and he (Bennifield) stuck that one in there. Xavier Borishade made a nice catch in the corner there on third-and-long, so he did a lot of good things.”
On defense…
“Our defense did well, we were pretty close to their wide outs on every throw they tried to make. I’m proud of our guys and it was important to them to get a shut-out. It was import to them to keep them from moving the ball, and we played every player that was in camp except for the redshirting freshmen.”
On the first play…
“Those are nice starts. I don’t think that’s going to happen in many more games this year and for that to happen was pretty good. That was a good start and a lot of things went right for us tonight.”
Alejandro Bennifield, quarterback, junior
Thoughts on tonight’s game…
“I feel like we came out and executed, made a couple of mistakes, but for the most part we did pretty well overall.”
On mistakes during game…
“Yeah, I try not to focus on the last pass. I try to focus on the next play, and the play after that. Just focusing on getting better each play, and I think that’s what helped me tonight.”
On the offense…
“Yeah I feel like our offense has the potential to be explosive this season. Everyone made plays and executed, from the running backs to the offensive line.”
On filling in for Jacob Huesman…
“Watching Jacob the last three years gave me the chance to see his mistakes and his success. Those are big shoes to fill, but I just come out and try to play my game.”
Keionta Davis, defensive lineman, senior
On upholding the reputation of the defensive line at Chattanooga
“I think this year we have a line that is a little bit more than in the past, deeper and with more mobility. This line is fun to play with and everyone came out and made plays today.”
On Presbyterian next week...
“Yeah it’s something we’ll have to adjust to. We came out tonight and out-played our opponents. If we play like that with fewer mistakes and better execution, we’ll have a good outcome next week.”
Tyler Roberson, quarterback, junior
Playing different positions tonight...
“When I got here I made sure to pride myself on doing whatever they (coaching staff) needed from me. I think of myself as a football player and not just a quarterback.”
On experience of OL/DL...
“A lot of those guys started out here young and now they have so much valuable experience. It was a great job from those guys both the 1s and 2s, it shows how deep we are up front on both sides of the ball.”
