Postgame Quotes vs. Alabama State

Head coach Matt McCall
On solid shooting against Alabama State.
"The thing I was most impressed with our guys is that we played the right way on offense. 28 assists, that's special. I don't know if that's some school record or not, but I've got to think it's up there. Twenty-eight assists is an enormous amount of assists in a game. It just tells me as a coach we were playing the right way."

On Tre' McLean's performance.
"What I said to him is, 'Do you know what confidence is?' Confidence is having a belief and trust in yourself. And I said to him, 'Do you trust me?' He said 'yes.' And I said 'Do you trust yourself?' He said 'yes.' Well, I trust you so go out and play. He had a terrific game. More important to me was he had six assists and no turnovers. It didn't feel like he forced anything. I felt like against Iowa State he forced some shots. He didn't do that in this game. He played the right way and ended up with 18 points, six assists, no turnovers and three steals. That's quite a performance out of him.

"You look at Casey Jones. He had 11 points and seven assists. The ball was being moved around. We played offensively the right way. I'm very, very pleased."

What did you say to this team during half time?
"I think this is the fourth game in a row that Alabama State was down in the half. They were down at Virginia Tech at the half and came back in the second half and won the game. They were down to UAB at the half and came back in the second half and basically there was a fluke foul called that UAB went to the line and made two free throws. They were down at the half against Mercer, so that's three games they were down at the half and made runs in the second half.

"I told our team we cannot flinch defensively. We really needed to clean up the offensive rebound. We were being outrebounded at the half by 11 or 12. We ended up getting outrebounded by eight, and some of that has to do with shooting percentages. I get that but I just wanted us to come out with the right mindset and mentality in the second half. I really felt like we did that."

On playing 14 players today.
"It's dictated through the course of the game and what's going on in the game. Tre' Mclean played 30 minutes tonight. It was kind of his night. There may be nights where Dee Oldham plays a little more minutes or Greg Pryor or Johnathan Burroughs-Cook. The game will dictate that. Obviously we want to play nine guys every night if we can.

"We've got to use our depth, which we used tonight. It was good. Greg Pryor is battling an illness right now, so him only playing 22 minutes is good. We can get him some rest with a quick turnaround. We have to play tomorrow and one day rest and play the next day. We need to get our legs underneath us and get back, get something good to eat and start preparing for this next game."

Tre' McLean, forward, junior
On great start in the game.
"I think I came into this game with a different approach. I was more locked in and focused on being aggressive and playing with confidence.
Was this a redemption game from the loss against Iowa State?

"Not necessarily. Against Iowa State, we didn't pay a lot of attention to the details. We talked as a team and we didn't think Iowa State was 20 points better than us. We felt like we needed to come out and be more aggressive. We were a little tentative against Iowa State."

Are you more proud of a career-high in points or assists?
"The assists, definitely. It just shows that I was being more active today. I came ready to play.  Before the game, Coach McCall talked to me that I needed to play with confidence. You have to be the player that we know you can be tonight and everyone in this program knows I can be.

"It's all about confidence. I know I can do a lot more offensively than I have been the past couple of days. I came out with more confidence and playing the way I know I can play."

Casey Jones, guard, senior
What did you tell your teammates, especially the freshmen, on having games two days in a row?
"The first thing I said when we went in after the win was stay hydrated and take care of your body. The biggest key is taking care of your body. We have another one tomorrow, so we have to get hydrated and get some rest and that's about it. As long as we have guys to bring the energy, our bodies are the key and keep ourselves healthy."

On early success this season.
"We have a lot of experience and a lot of confidence. We can go as far as our hard work allows us."

On plans for Black Friday.
"We won't be doing too much shopping. We came on a business trip, and we're going to prepare for a big game tomorrow."
