2015-16 Chattanooga Mocs BasketballPost-Game QuotesNov. 28, 2015 – vs. Jacksonville State – Niceville, Fla. – Arena at NW Florida St. CollegeÂ
Coach Matt McCallThoughts on today's win:"They're a good basketball team that basically had Virginia Tech on the ropes, UAB on the ropes, beat a good Chicago State team yesterday. Offensively, we struggled a little bit. I think (our size advantage) actually hurt us a little bit. They crawled up into (Justin) Tuoyo a little bit…crawled up into
Casey Jones. That caused us some issues in the first half with some missed layups. This is going to make us better down the road grinding out a good win against a really good team."
Â
Second-half turnaround on the boards (+10):"It was a mindset. We didn't shoot as high a percentage from 3pt range in the second half, so there were more chances to rebound the ball. Our guys did a good job to get to the glass.
Chuck Ester didn't play an enormous amount of minutes (12), but the minutes he played were quality. He gave us an unbelievable boost. I'm really impressed and pleased with our work on the boards in the second half."
Â
On the bench play out-scoring JSU reserves 17-1:"It needs to be that way every night. We need to utilize our depth…it needs to be the strength of our team. Looking at the minutes, Casey probably played too many, so did Greg (Pryor). They were important to us on the floor, but our bench gave us great minutes. Especially late, like I said, Chuck gave us great minutes."
Â
On the tournament-like 3-games-in-4-days heading to Monroe, La., now:"I think it was huge winning these first two. Just for our mindset. Being able to win two games in two days, maybe that's something in years past was difficult to do for us. Hopefully down the road this will give us confidence when we're in situations where we need to win three-in-three days or two games in four days, whatever it may be, we can revert back to this as a learning point that we're fully capable of doing it."
Â
Eric Robertson, Sr.-GWinning defensively today:"We really paid a lot of attention to our defense. Offensively, it really wasn't clicking a lot in the first half. So we really relied on our defense to help us get the win. Defense was really a focus coming in."
Â
Thoughts on winning first two of the three-in-four-day stretch:"It feels really good to get the first two wins. We need to go out and get the next one. It's definitely good preparation (for March), being able to play these games in this many days."
Â
Justin Tuoyo, Jr.-FThoughts on today's game:"We wanted to come in and win the tournament. We wanted to play aggressive. You know it's three-games-in-four-days. We did a great job of just focusing on our 14 guys and the coaching staff this weekend."
Â
Thoughts on defense keying the win:"Defense is one of our good aspects we haven't done so far. So this weekend, we've focused on that. We've held teams to 58 and 52 so far so we've shown we can win in any way possible."
