Postgame Quotes at Lipscomb

Head coach Matt McCall
On win against Lipscomb.
"I really felt like in the last four minutes of the first half, we started playing. I said to our guys at half time for 16 minutes in that half, Lipscomb was able to run their offense. They were getting great shots. I thought the press was pretty good in the first half. We got into the half court going into the game, and it was all about keeping them on the sidelines and not letting them run their motion, not letting them run their offense and take away their three-point line.

"At the beginning of the game, they were getting whatever they wanted. Finally there with four minutes to go in the first half, we really started to play harder and put them under a little bit more pressure, which got us at 11 points.

"It was a total team effort. I'm really proud of our guys. We dealt with a little adversity, trying to get here. I thought I heard the National Anthem as we were walking into the gym, but our guys handled it the right way. They didn't flinch. I think we as a coaching staff, we end up worrying about those things more than the players do. We came out and got a really good win."

On Dee Oldham's performance.
"I'm so proud of Dee Oldham tonight. I knew Dee was going to play well because he had two really, really good days coming out of the break of practice. His energy level was terrific. He was focused on the right things. He goes for 11 points and 9 rebounds and played the right way. He was terrific tonight and, I'm really happy for him. He had a lot of his family here. I'm just excited for him to play well and play well in front of his family."

On 9-0 run after being tied 26-26 in the first half.
"I think we just turned up the pressure. We turned up the pressure at the half court. There was no pressure on them in the first 16 minutes, for whatever reason. We talked a lot about trying to keep them on the sideline because they try to run their offense through there, the hard cuts and the motions. Once we started picking up the defensive pressure, the game changed."

On Duke Ethridge's performance.
"He missed his first layup. I've been talking to him in practice about when he goes to the rim, it has to be one of two things. It has to be a dunk, or he has to play it off the backboard. Casey Jones and I were in the locker room telling him that. And he missed his first layup, because he didn't use the backboard and he didn't dunk it. Everything after that was a dunk.

"Athletically, there's just not many guys out there like him. He can go up another level from most people, but I thought he was into it. He rebounded the ball well and finished plays around the basket. He's good to kick in one or two three's a game. If you come to practice, he's one of the more energetic guys at practice. And he's going to tell you he's the best shooter on the team."

On playing a variety of player's tonight.
"No one played over 30 minutes. Greg Pryor and Justin Tuoyo were both under 20. That's not a normal night for them minute-wise. We were able to get some young guys in the game late, get those guys some reps. I thought it was good because we're about to go on a stretch here playing for a conference championship every night.

"If you look at our league, and we try not to look too far down the road, but there's some one day off, game, one day off, game. We're going to need everybody. We're going to need our bench. We have to focus one game at a time and that starts on Saturday."

Dee Oldham, guard, senior
On a strong performance tonight in your hometown.
"Where I came from, I played in front of my family often. We had some games in conference that were in front of my family. That was something I've always enjoy, and it's been awhile since I've done that. Obviously, sitting out a year, and we haven't had any games other than in Chattanooga that have been close to Nashville. Definitely coming back home and playing in front of my family for one last time as a senior was pretty sweet."

On getting hands in the passing lane, stealing things away and making Lipscomb feel uncomfortable.
"Coach preached that all week, do what we do. Pressure the ball and just play to our advantage. We have so many different types of ways we can play with our depth. Getting in the passing lane and pressure the ball, that was definitely a key tonight."

On 14-3 run after being 26-26 with three and half minutes left in the first half.
"We had to make sure we carried that momentum over into the second half and didn't come out flat. We made sure we maintained that momentum."

On having a great starting going into conference play.
"In conference play, it's 0-0. Everything you've done up to this point, it doesn't matter."

Tre' McLean, forward, junior
On the 'big wingspan-guys' having great games.
"We were able to be active on defense. It really effected them shooting the ball three-point-wise, and they're a three-point shooting team. My length really played a role today."

On putting it into high gear halfway into the game.
"I think we kind of slept walk through the first part of the first half. Coach said they were a little too comfortable, so we had to up our pressure and up our energy, really just play harder."

On having a lot of contributors tonight.
"There is not a lot of guys you come across like Duke Ethridge athlete-wise. We had some potential highlights. It's always good to see the ball go in, as a team or as a play. When the ball goes in, everyone's going to play hard. It gives everyone energy, and it did tonight."
