Matt McCall,
Head Coach
On tonight's effort:
"I thought it was a great win against a really good team. Those guys went wire-to-wire with Oklahoma State. They have one of the best scorers in the country in Jordan Howard. I felt like we did a really, really good job on him. He ended up with 16 points, but was 1-7 from the 3pt line. Last season he made more 3s per game than any other player in the country. I thought our guys did an unbelievable job against him."
Â
On battling foul trouble:
"We get in unreal foul trouble and get a huge lift off the bench. We had
Makale Foreman come in and
Nat Dixon come in…Rodney [Chatman} and [Trayvond] Massenburg…it was just a total team effort."
Â
On Justin Tuoyo:
"He was the best player on the floor. He impacted the game in so many ways. We kept going to him, and he kept making good, aggressive post moves. He's such a rim protector getting six blocked shots and he played 34 minutes. Obviously with the quick turnaround, it's imperative to get him ready for an early start tomorrow."
Â
Justin Tuoyo
On a strong start to the tournament:
"It was a whole team effort. We had starters go down with foul trouble, and Nat, Massenburg and Makale did a real good job giving us the spark we needed in the first half. They really lifted the whole team and carried us through the whole game."
Â
On His All-Around Game Tonight:
"The players around me get me the ball in the right spots. They make it easy for me. We've got great shooters and great cutters. It's just a team effort."
Â
Johnathan Burroughs-Cook
On the defensive effort against Howard:
"We knew coming into the game what kind of scorer he is. We had to lock in and focus on him. Wherever he was at on the court, we had to find him. That went for everybody. I started on him, but we all had to be aware and ready for him at all times."
Â
On his game-high 18 points:
"To be honest, I don't really have any thoughts on the offensive side. We knew what we had to do defensively. I got myself going defensively, and that helped me get it going on the offensive end. I was just focused on the defensive end."
