Men's Basketball Quotes - Western Carolina

2016-17 Chattanooga Mocs Basketball
Post-Game Quotes vs Western Carolina
Chattanooga, Tenn. – Feb. 4 – McKenzie Arena

Matt McCall, Head Coach
On the defensive strategy in tonight's game.
"We'd like to press more, but I'm kind of stubborn about it. Our depth is a little bit of a factor. We try to throw some different presses out there to keep them off balance. You have to give Western Carolina credit for hitting a lot of tough shots. We fought tonight when it wasn't going well and I thought that was the difference. We said that everyone needs to bring the energy and get through the tough spots. I'm proud of our effort tonight. We didn't get rattled and we kept playing, I'm proud of that."

On the quick Thursday-Saturday turnaround.
"Thursday night was the best we've played all year. We were clicking on everything. Tonight, we weren't hitting like we did that night, but it's a quick turnaround. Teams are going through that all across the country. I had a feeling we weren't going to shoot the ball great tonight, and we played against a spirited group, it was going to be difficult."

On practice style this time of year.
"We try to keep it fresh. A lot depends, especially after you come out of a week losing two games. You have to get your focus and attention back. You want to keep things fresh at the end of the day. We have to stay sharp and crisp, so it's more about going harder and not as long."

On the play of Casey Jones.
"I couldn't be happier for him. He has put his heart and soul into this program with his third different coach. I think you can see that he's back. When he's at the level, our team is on a good spot."

Casey Jones, Sr.-G
On shooting confidence during the game.
"I couldn't explain it. Sometimes I just don't shoot. I can't even tell you why. Sometimes I'm open and I'll think, 'let someone else get a shot right now'. I think against UNCG I didn't take a three, not because I wasn't open, I just didn't shoot it. I felt like tonight I was more in a head space of shooting the ball."

Key to the second half.
"We feel like, if we stay connected and we keep playing hard, they're going to break down before us. That's what got us a win tonight. Just keep playing hard and kept pounding the rock. Tonight, we got two really good plays that just sparked some energy in us and helped us pull it out."

Tre' McLean, Sr.-F
On second half adjustments.
"I think our mentality. At the start of the game, we had an expectation coming off the last game that we were going to come out and do the same thing. But you just can't come out and win every game like that. The game just doesn't work that way because the other team wants to win too. I think as the game went on, we kind of got out of that mentality and just started playing, start moving the ball, started sitting down getting stops on defense."

On if this win was rewarding.
"Yes, most definitely. This was a tough win. We love games like that, where coming in you have to battle. This helps us to take another step and it's a learning experience for us. It's good for us to come in and battle and face adversity and come out with a win."
