Postgame Quotes vs. Wofford

Chattanooga Basketball Postgame Quotes
Wofford vs. Chattanooga
Southern Conference Tournament Semifinals
U.S. Cellular Center – Asheville, N.C.
Saturday – March 4, 2017

Chattanooga Head Coach Matt McCall
Opening statement…
"Obviously extremely disappointed in the ending to our season. I have to give Wofford a tremendous amount of credit. I think we did a terrific job of guarding the three-point line in the first half. They had eight threes in the second half and I'm not sure how many of those were really clean looks. They made some difficult ones, but that's what those guys do. Fletcher Magee is a great shot maker and he made some tough ones. You have to tip your hat on some of those that he made.

"We just didn't get enough shots, especially to start the second half. We had two bad turnovers and it's like we just didn't ever recover. We kept fighting. We changed up defenses and it was pretty good for three or four possessions. We just had some costly turnovers that they capitalized on. The eight threes though in the second half made a difference.

"We battled some foul trouble there in the first half and still fought. Tied it up around the half. I thought Tre' (McLean) played a terrific game. Asking him to play the point and that's something he's not used to. Our guys competed, but one of our biggest issues was finishing around the rim. To win and to win large you have to be able to make those plays at the basket. We missed far too many layups, but you have to give Wofford a lot of credit."

On the senior class…
"I think this senior class should be celebrated. I don't think this senior class should be remembered, at all, for how this season ended. I think they should be remembered by the best season in school history, the best record in school history. They should be remembered by beating two SEC teams. I think they should be remembered by going on the road and beating Dayton and snapping one of the longest home win streaks in the country. I think this senior class should be remembered for winning the regular season and the tournament.

"They've accomplished everything they could possibly accomplish as a basketball team and as a group. It hasn't been easy for them. Some of these guys were on their third head coach. They should be celebrated, throughout our arena, throughout campus. I've never be more proud of a group of individuals and what they've done for this basketball program and for our school.

"As a coaching staff, we'll get it corrected and I'll make sure of that, but right now, these guys need to be celebrated and that's the bottom line. There will never be another Justin Tuoyo, Tre' McLean, Greg Pryor, Casey Jones, or Johnathan Burroughs-Cook."

On the senior class…
"When you have seniors, you worry about what's next for them and where they go from here. I don't worry about any of these individuals. They're all going to be successful because of the type of people they are. They deserve to be celebrated. As the head coach, I'll make sure the program keeps moving in the right direction, but let's not forget what these guys did. It's impressive and this is the best group in school history."

Justin Tuoyo
On matching up with Wofford…
"It's hard. They're good, have a good coach, and they play with good energy. They have good shooters. We did the best we could to defend them and they made a couple of difficult shots."

Tre' McLean
On separating today's disappointment and the success of the last two years…
"It's tough right now, just knowing what we've been through as a team and with us seniors. We didn't want it to end like this. No one thought it would end like this. We just have to live with it at this point and move forward."

Wofford Head Coach Mike Young
On the quick second-half start…
"Having good players [was the key to quick start]. It was not anything I sprinkled on them at the half. We didn't have a grand plan, we just went out there and played. [My players know] that if you got it, let it rip. They do not need me to tell them that. They do the rest and make me look like I know what I'm doing."

On the play of sophomore center Matthew Pegram…
"He looked like he belonged. He played hard and he played well. He played with a level of confidence and had his shoulders back. He really helped us."

On Wofford's guard play…
"It is being where you're supposed to be and where you are asked to be. They had the toughness to be in the right spot on and get their hands in there and get after it. I thought those guys did a nice job of it today."
