Postgame Quotes
Lamont Paris, Head Coach
Opening statement after 73-55 loss to Furman.
"It was a good effort. Better than good effort I would say. That's the effort we need in every game. We got down and battled back defensively, we were really good during that stretch. There's a lot of factors that go into winning a basketball game and effort is a big one. There's some more basketball plays we need to be better at. From an effort standpoint, check that box. And you can see that gives you a chance to win the game."
On trying to get the ball in the post.
"We tried to get in there some. We ran a couple plays to try to get the ball in there when Joshua [Phillips] was fresh. But other than that, I think we spread the floor. We ran some ball screen action and I thought we were a little more aggressive tonight off the ball screens. The biggest adjustment was that we didn't have two guys in there we were comfortable with getting the ball too in the post."
On moving forward to The Citadel.
"Our practices are focusing on us. We do a lot of that after a game. We probably spend more time on that than most. We focus on what we have to do to be better. I like doing that while it's fresh in our minds. Our team is the most important of the two teams playing in the equation. I want us to be playing the best we possibly can by limiting things we do wrong. I thought our effort tonight was really good. It was just things we could do a little bit better."
Rodney Chatman, So.-G
On Furman closing strong late in the game.
"I think we lost focus. It was part fatigue, and we slipped up. They hit two threes and extended the lead and just had it from there."
On playing with just seven active players.
"It's hard. I don't want to make that an excuse. We played hard and tried to win. We almost won with just seven guys, you have to do what you need to do."
On playing hard through fatigue.
"When I'm out there I just want to play as hard as a I can because I know there's a media timeout coming up soon and I'll get a break. It's kind of a management game when you know you get certain breaks."
Nat Dixon, So.-G/F
On the duty of playing 35+ minutes a game.
"Coming in, I didn't think I would have to. You have to what you have to do while players are trying to get healthy and come back. Whatever I have to do for the team, I have to be prepared and always be prepared for the next game."
On recovering from fatigue.
"I feel like recovery is a big part of it. We're not going to change the practice plan. The guys who are going to play will practice. You just have to go out there and play as hard as you can. That's all you can ask for."
On energy level tonight.
"He brings it out of us. He knows it's there in us, in all of us. We practice really hard every day and it's there. We definitely put all our energy into it tonight and that's a product of practicing hard."
