Bob Standifer was an All-American defensive tackle for the Mocs from 1981-84.  He was captain of the 1984 team that went 6-5 overall, won the Southern Conference with a 5-1 league mark and made UTC’s first appearance in the NCAA FCS Playoffs. 

Standifer was a two-time All-Southern Conference performer, earning the league recognition in 1983 and 1984.  He made the Associated Press All-American Second Team as a senior and was honorable mention as a junior. 

Standifer declined the 1985 NFL Draft and was taken in the first round of the USFL draft by the Oakland Invaders.  He spent the 1985 and 1986 seasons in Oakland before playing the 1987 campaign with the San Francisco 49ers.
