Charlie Heard (1982-84) was a three-time All-American for the Mocs and national runner-up at 118 pounds at the 1983 NCAA Division I National Championships. He is the only three-time All-American in Southern Conference history.Â
Heard finished in eighth place as the No. 11 seed in 1982 and was the No. 4 seed when he made it to the finals in 1983. He posted a 37-2 record with 14 pins in 1983. He was the No. 1 seed in 1984 and placed seventh with a 41-1 record and 18 pins. The 41 wins and 18 pins are the most in a season at UTC.
In SoCon Tournament action, Heard was one of five in league history, and three at UTC, to win two Most Outstanding Wrestler Awards in 1982 and 1984. He finished his career with a 113-10 record, which is the fifth-most wins all-time at UTC. His .919 winning percentage is third in UTC’s record books, while his 34 career pins are the most all time.
