Dr. Robert Wilson was the long-time Chair of the Geology Department at UTC and known to most at the University as "Dr. Rock."  A big supporter of the Athletics program, he was omnipresent at UTC Athletics events. 

He joined the University in 1955 and was a professor of Geology for over 35 years.  He sponsored trips for geology students to Hawaii, the Bahamas, Mexico, Jamaica and other geological destinations. 

An anonymous donation in 1987 set up the Robert Lake Wilson Professorship.  This endowment honored Dr. Wilson’s demonstration of a personal interest in the welfare of his students. It is intended to recognize and reward faculty who go out of their way to provide encouragement and support.
