Greg Cater was a three-time All-Southern Conference punter for the Mocs from 1976-79. He was the Scrappy Moore Team MVP Award winner as a freshman in 1976 when he posted a 44.2-yard average.
He earned his All-SoCon recognition in 1977, 1978 and 1979, while leading the league in punting all three seasons. His 44.2 career average is second on the Mocs all-time list, and he is also second in career punts (266) and punting yards (11,234).
Cater is one of just four individuals in league history to lead the SoCon in punting for three seasons. He was named to the Mocs; All-Century Team in 2003.
Following his collegiate career, Cater was selected in the 10th round of the 1980 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. He went on the play six seasons in the NFL with Buffalo (1980-83) and the St. Louis Cardinals (1986-87).
