John Kovacevich was one of the top performers on the Mocs football team before and after the two-year break in action during World War II. He joined the Mocs in 1942 after transferring from Howard College in Birmingham.Â
The Ohio native was an outstanding punter, blocking back and quarterback. He once had a 74-yard punt vs Dayton on Nov. 7, 1942. He enlisted in the Army Air Force and was a navigator on a B-29 during his service in the war. He returned to UC in 1946 and played both football and basketball the rest of his career. He was the team captain on the 1947 squad.Â
