Randy Batten was a three-time NCAA Division II National Champion wrestler for the Mocs from 1975-78. He was the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the 1975 NCAAs when he won the title at 118 pounds as a freshman.
Batten went on two win two more times, 118 in 1976 and 126 in 1977. As a team, the Mocs were third in 1975, runner-up in 1976 and ninth in 1977.
UTC made the move to NCAA Division I in 1978 for Batten’s senior year. He won the SoCon Title at 126 and was the SoCon Tournament Most Outstanding Wrestler while leading the Mocs to the team championship.
Batten finished his career at UTC with a 102-15 record. He is still eighth all-time at UTC in career wins, while his .872 winning percentage is fifth-best in school history.
