Hall of Fame
Tony Ball made a name for himself at UTC as an outstanding running back and kick returner on the football team.
Ball played the Mocs from 1977-1980 and was a member of three straight Southern Conference Championship teams under Head Coach Joe Morrison.
Ball set numerous school kickoff return records. His career average of 26.0 yards per return ranks No. 2 on the UTC career list, and his career yardage total of 1,304 return yards is fifth on the all-time chart. He set the UTC season record in 1977 with 37.7 yards per return, a mark which would rank second in the SoCon record book.
A 213-yard rushing game in 1979 against Western Carolina stands as the fifth-best single-game effort at UTC. He also recorded three kickoff returns over 50 yards, including a 68-yarder versus Marshall.
Ball earned his degree in 1983 from UTC in Criminal Justice. He was named to the Chattanooga Times Free Press UC/UTC All-Century Football Team as its kick returner in 2003.
