GLENCOE, Ala. -- The Chattanooga women's golf team finished with a tournament-record low total of 885 to win the 13th annual Chris Banister/Gamecock Golf Classic, played at the par-72, 5,998-yard Silver Lakes Golf Course on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.
The Lady Mocs shot a final team score of 300 to break the 54-hole tournament record by 24 shots. UTC is in its first year of women's golf and is coached by former JSU standout golfer Colette Murray.
Jacksonville State finished second for the second straight year after shooting a 306 on Sunday to post a three-day total of 912, while OVC member Eastern Kentucky finished third with a total of 932. Butler was fourth (941), followed by Louisiana-Monroe (946), Troy (952), Western Kentucky (957), Birmingham-Southern (961) and Nicholls State rounds the nine-team field with a total of 965.
UTC sophomore Kelly Brotherton shot an even-par 216 to win individual honors, just ahead of freshman teammate Emma de Groot's total of 219. JSU's Mercedes Huarte and ULM's Angela Drane tied for third with a 4-over 220.
Freshman Christine Wolf finished with a 225 tied for fifth, sophomore Kayla Stewart carded a three-day total 228 finishing ninth while sophomore Katie Taylor tied for 14th with a 232.
Chattanooga returns to the course on Sept. 29-30 at the Great Smokies Women's Intercollegiate hosted by Western Carolina and played at the Waynesville Country Club in Waynesville, N.C.
