Head Coach Wes Moore
Statement on the Passing of N.C. State Head Coach Kay Yow (Pre-game radio interview):
“Coach Yow hired me and I was on her staff for two years (1993-95). It was a great opportunity and just a privilege to work with such a legend in the coaching industry and a legend in the people department as well.”
“This comes with mixed emotions. I'm saddened by it because we lost a great ambassador of the game of women's basketball, a trail blazer that made it better for the rest of us and someone that helped put women's basketball on the map. On the other hand, she's been really battling it now for the last couple of years in particular. I'm glad that Coach Yow will not have to suffer anymore. I know she's in a better place.”
“The thing that always amazed me about Coach Yow is how much her players loved her. She was able to walk that fine line of being the head coach, the person in charge, but also a mother and friend to all those young ladies. There are a whole lot of people around the world who are very saddened today but on the other hand we can rejoice because of Coach Yow's faith she is a much better place right now.”
How much of the turnovers were Wofford and how many was mental lapses or bad passes?
“I think it is a combination. It was very frustrating, I think they led the country in steals a year ago and are pretty good at it this year...leading the conference. But some of it is being careless. You have to give Wofford credit. They came in here with a lot of energy and took it to us and that is what some of the young kids do not understand that when you are Chattanooga and have had the success that we have had you are going to get everyone's A-game. I do not care who they are.”
Were you pleased with the way LaConda made some plays there during the end?
“They played a lot of zone and at times made it difficult for us to get it in to Shanara and were trying to make someone else step up. Unfortunately, tonight the three was not falling and as a couch you struggle with do we keep shooting the three? Or do we just go a different direction and we did try to do that. Tried to get to the rim and maybe try to get to the foul line in the process but at some point you need to knock some shots down.”
Senior LaCondra Mason
How much of the turnovers was them and how much was mental mistakes?
“Probably a little of both. They did come out and came after us but we had to realize that we are going to get everyone's best. Everyone is going to come out to play against us and we tend to relax as a team. We are number one in the conference but we have to realize that everyone is going to come out and play against us every day so we so we have to be more focused.”
Senior Erin Ogan
Is it hard to get up for a team that you have never lost to?
“This is my senior year so I get up for every one and I think that LaConda is the same way. We know that everyone brings their A-game against us, they want to beat us; they are tired of seeing us on top. We have to bring the freshman along and get them up for every game.”
